I'm trying to square that with bump stocks and "due process later" red flags.

Keep in mind that Trump's version of the Second Amendment is growing up in a city that has had severe registration and confiscation for over 100 years and only the rich and politically connected can carry a firearm. He may have an NYC CCW permit but probably only to show how wealthy and politically connected he is. The concept of "shall not be infringed" as written is completely foreign to him.
He relies on NRA for 2A advice and they have come out heavily in favor of Bump Stock bans and red flag laws, and will probably support other restrictions being proposed by Congress.
