I'm guessing the victim was outside and somehow got into an altercation with a suspect who shot him, and the sheriff's office is now implying that was justifiable.

I've gone through several news reports, and family's FB page. Neither the family nor the police are putting out any version of events, other than Fredde was shot once and -- per a family claim -- by Russell Woods.
Some third party posted yesterday on the FB page that they're pleased Woods is behind bars. But I can find no news reports of that. So no idea if he was jailed for this or something.
With no one really giving out info, that report may be the best the reporter could do.
