We're the Only Ones Understating Enough

Two D.C. police officers have accused their MPD superiors of rigging crime stats to make them look better. Now, WUSA9 has obtained internal documents the whistleblowers say proves their case. [More]
I've heard of "superiors" padding statistics, so I guess it could work the other way.

Prior to Parkland, even prior to Trevon, Broward county schools felt that the crime statistics on campus were too high. A directive came down from on high to reduce them. So people stopped taking official notice of on campus crime. "Stuff" rolled downhill as it often does and both Treyvon's death and the Parkland shootings were indirect results.

British crime statistics are nearly impenetrable because they sometimes entirely fail to report incidents that are still under investigation, and if they are not solved, they often sho up nowhere.

Even in the USA, a lot of firearms death reports get reported as murders because they are not adjudicated as valid self-defense until long after they occur, and there is no official protocol to go back and reclassify them.
