So Much for Lobbying

One day after the big gun rally, House Democrats wipe out GOP firearm bills [More]

It's not like they actually believe people who have proven themselves unfailingly peaceable are going to start anything. That's just talk for the media to amplify and gin up hysteria.

Only One Arrest

A 21-year-old Richmond woman was charged Monday with wearing a mask in public following the gun-rights rally in Richmond. Police said a Richmond officer warned Mikaela E. Beschler, of the 1100 block of North 34th Street, on two earlier occasions that day to adjust the bandanna covering her face. [More]
Absent from all reports I've seen is whose "side" she is on.  "Bandanna" kind'a suggests something...

Regardless, that'll teach her not to presume to claim "Only One" entitlements.

So Much for 'For the Children'

Lisette Johnson, a Richmond resident and a survivor of domestic gun violence who advocates with Everytown for Gun Safety, said the photos of people gathering at the Capitol with firearms triggered traumatic memories of her own assault, when her husband shot her in front of her children in 2009. (Her husband, Marshall E. Johnson, took his own life that day, police said.) [More]
So according to this account, she "was in the process of ending the relationship after years of described abuse"...?

"Years"?

So she knew full well he was violent but she nevertheless left her children in that dangerous situation rather than doing the responsible, adult and parental thing of getting them away from him? And her "solution" is to make the rest of us vulnerable?

Forgive me for having conflicted sympathy.

What Difference Does It Make?

Clarification on the estimated turnout for today's rally: the division is closer to approximately 6,000 people on Capitol Square and 16,000 outside the gates. [More]
I'm being told it was more like 50,000, so the difference is significant. The question now is "Why?"

[Via Mack H]

UPDATE:

"Official" counts for events like this are always hard. The capital police estimates say 22,000. EM Ed Levine guessed "50,233" :) and another member used the same software the park police used on the mall to count people density from helicopter photos and his software says between 50,000 - 100,000.

We're perfectly capable of evaluating this problematic president against a field of outright traitors without painting an opportunist as something his actions tell us he's really not. Good rule of thumb: Don't talk to your members (your employers) like they're idiots. Then again, maybe those are the ones persuaded by such appeals.

Domestic abusers are not law-abiding citizens, Governor. [More]
True. But in order to be called that, they have to be charged, tried and convicted, with full due process every step of the way. Otherwise, the system of justice respectful of rights that these weasels demand to be discarded has always presumed the accused to be innocent.

Where else do we stand things on their head, and for whom? And what would that do to equal protection?
