We're the Only Ones "Blessed are the Peacemakers" Enough

A mother who called Louisiana sheriff's officers because her daughter and son-in-law were fighting saw the officers respond by shooting them both to death, the mother claims in court. [More]
I really don't know what to believe here, considering the "progressive" AlterNet source. The subversive fools present stories like this and then turn around and do everything in their power to promote a government monopoly of violence.

Gun lawyer group calls for tomorrow to be NFA ‘day of reckoning’

While the FIGC effort has been tailored to the NFA community, including “individuals who have been denied a CLEO signature” and Federal Firearms Licensees, any changes ultimately impact all Americans, and as such, Gun Rights Examiner urges all readers to make their views known. After all, it was a petition initiated by a niche group doing things quietly for the interests of its membership of collectors and investors that the administration seized upon to instead tighten its grip. Openness and full participation will now be needed to undo the damage. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report calls on the clean up crew, that would be you and me, to help mop up the mess.

We're the Only Ones "Bleeding is Fundamental" Enough

Extra Security Precautions

Bill Barratt oversees security at the Bloomsburg fair.  He says this year the board of directors will take extra security precautions such as banning people from bringing guns onto the fairgrounds. [More]
Really, Bill?  Wouldn't it be more accurate to say you oversee insecurity? And can I assume the parking lot is on the fairgrounds?

I need to find a poster for this, and put in a notice to predators looking for easy prey that everyone going to and from this is ... uh ... fair game.

Seems reasonable to me.

Our Own Worst Enemies

Remember the mental health blanket dragnet?

Nothing like throwing the ones least capable of defending themselves under the Bloomberg bus, as if that will stop it from rolling and the crazed driver won't just aim it at somebody else. (And why does that remind me of the way some regimes have treated "mental defectives"?)

Remember how, in spite of some movement and industry "leaders" urging that we'd have to give up something after Newtown, because congressmen can't just do nothing, some of us instead warned against throwing circling jackals a scrap of flesh and thinking that would make them go away?

Remember how some of us advocated:
WE WON’T STAND FOR SCAPEGOATING
NO NEW GUN LAWS
DENY SUCCESS TO MASS MURDERERS BY ABOLISHING PHONY ‘GUN-FREE’ VICTIM / KILLER ENABLING ZONES NOW
WORK WITH US OR WE WILL WORK TO RETIRE YOU
Yes, thank you to those of you sending me links to this petition. I mentioned it in that January column.

Where it originated hardly surprises me. But that no longer matters, as the church sells indulgences (and just forget who really pays that bill).

What's disturbing is how many in "our ranks" seem not just oblivious to the danger they're inviting, but enthusiastic about embracing it.  Most of them know not what they do, but that doesn't help. We're responsible for our actions, and "I didn't know the wolf would kill" is hardly a sympathetic excuse for opening the door in the first place and letting it in.

To those who counsel we need to stand together: That presupposes some are actually taking a stand, instead of engineering preemptive concessions.

Get on the right side of the damn line and we will.

Two quibbles: Black disarmament started before the 1860s, and guns are not a "cause of death."

This Day in History: September 2

Rochambeau, by orders of his own government under the command of Washington, was brought to New York, where, by feigned activity, Clinton was made to believe that he was to be besieged ; and finally, with admirable celerity, a combined American and French force numbering 6000 was moved to the head of Chesapeake Bay and thence by water to the James river, where it landed, and, joined by Lafayette, instituted the siege of Yorktown, September 2, 1781.
