As always happens in these elections, various groups and individuals are making recommendations that may or may not coincide with Nominating Committee selections, and once again, several readers have written and asked who I’m endorsing. Right now, no one, and unless I get some information beyond the sketchy bios provided for each candidate, I’m likely to be part of the vast majority of eligible members who sits things out, not because I don’t care, but because no one will have earned my vote. Informed choices problematic for 2015 NRA Director election
American Snipers
How long before anti-gunners start pushing to regulate “sniper rifles,” which might be that bolt-action deer hunting rifle in the gun cabinet, the one with the black or camouflage composite synthetic stock and a scope sight? [More]They're already "regulated." How long before they're banned?
The Alternative
He went on to say, that in his household he would not fight against a home invader. [More]I absolutely support his choice. Funny though, that he wants to have it imposed on you and me -- under force of government arms.
"Reasonable" First Amendment Prior Restraints
As the gun industry prepares a public campaign to broaden the appeal of guns, it is important that we establish reasonable age limits for admission to gun shows by children. Within New York State and other areas of jurisdiction, we have myriad regulations that seek to protect minors from exposure to certain potentially dangerous situations and influences. For example, a minor is restricted from watching films or playing certain video games that portray deadly weaponry and gunplay. Currently, however, minors of any age may gain unfettered access to a gun show. [More]See? We've got the "precedent," so there's nothing to stop us!
Besides, who knows better? You gun-humping ammosexual parents, or us ruling "progressives"?

We're the Only Ones Quieting Things Down Enough
Now, another suit, filed in U.S. District Court for Eastern New York, claims that a disabled FDNY firefighter injured on 9/11 had $100,000 worth of guns confiscated by police for shouting in his own home – and that the cops conspired to convert his guns into police department property without compensation. [More]And we're supposed to rally around these guys again why?

Prosecutorial Discretion
I'd wondered about this myself. [More]
I'd even asked.
But the guy's a "progressive," so what else would we expect?
Besides this, I mean.

No Argument from Me

True enough.I know what I'm doing to try and work around that and "actively get our message out."
I can't speak for anyone else, but that every gun owner is not involved is a source of puzzlement.
Watergate or Worse
Bob Owens share observations on revelations of DOJ attorney fraud on the court in the Dobyns case. [More]
Write Someone Else's Congressman
I occasionally get feedback after I ask readers to write a specific congressman that the contact form only accepts communications from constituents living in their district. That's intentional avoidance, of course, as things they introduce, sponsor and vote on affect us all, and they aren't shy about accepting donations from across district and state lines.
What I do is use the address and phone of their local branch office (sometimes requiring I go to the USPS site to get the "+4" for the zip. It's also why I urge all advocates to get on social media, because you can tweet or message any of them that way, and their staffers will pick up and convey to the decision-makers what they see trending.
And no, of course I don't recommend using Facebook or Twitter for trivial pursuits. I urge you to use it for C3I purposes. Otherwise, you are ceding entire vital areas to a documented enemy, who as WarOnGuns Correspondent Mack H observes, has weaponized social media and uses it to great effect.

Decisions, Decisions
I am worried, however, about encouraging a plan that arms too many civilians. As someone who has spent 40 years in the criminal-justice system, I have been around guns and the people who use them for both good and bad reasons. I have seen the murder and mayhem that weapons can cause when used by criminals, but I also know of many cases in which guns were used by private citizens who, despite their best intentions, caused more harm than good, as well as cases in which a failure to safeguard the weapon resulted in horrific tragedy and the loss of innocent life. In light of recent events, however, I am convinced that Jews everywhere are now targets of terrorists intent on killing us. Accordingly, I am leaning closer to changing my mind on this issue as I come to grips with the realization that no police force, however superb, can always be everywhere. It is really that simple. [More]Yeah, well, let everybody know when you stop being a dithering, hand-wringing squish and accept the burdens of freedom. Because right now, you're pretty goddamn useless, and truth be known, if you're just thinking about maybe thinking about this now, it's probably too late for you and for anyone ignorant and indecisive enough to pay attention to you.
