Represented as being the FBI is at Malheur...? Always tough to make the call to share, but I know Seim's name and best to be safe for protection of people there...

Park Robber

Hiding in the brush, lying in wait, two armed youths successfully rob several victims. In their eagerness and greed for more loot, they ambush the wrong guy... a prepared citizen.  [More]

Such a Deal

THE ZELMAN PARTISANS HAVE AN OFFER FOR TED NUGENT [More]
This whole sorry episode made me recall how Tom Gresham almost single-handedly spearheaded the generally (but not completely) accepted rehabilitation of Jim Zumbo, and to speculate that this could be another lemons into lemonade opportunity: Have a recognizable radio host moderate a dialog between Nugent and a Jewish RKBA/liberty leader and begin his process back into forgiveness, acceptability and good graces.

Thing is, it looks like he doesn't want to and is doubling down. His dismissal of JPFO's statement as "sad bullshit [from] failed followers" (of Aaron Zelman) make reconciliation there problematic. That pretty much leaves TZP -- perhaps they will succeed in getting a response to their outreach and establish a public dialog.

It does make it problematic for NRA, which takes political considerations most seriously.  The question in my mind is, will he take one for the team and not expect them to deal with a mess of his inartful making, or will he force them kick him out and strike back loudly all the way?

And before anybody gets all bent on my choice of post title and the stereotype implications, it comes from the very first comment on the piece over at the TZP site.

So Much for Representative Government

Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, the Republican Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he has refused repeated requests to meet with supporters of Pro-Second Amendment bills.  FSU student and campus rape survivor Shayna Lopez-Rivas has been trying diligently to get a meeting but the Chairman has refused her and is even ignoring requests to meet with pro-rights senators. It could practically eliminate malaria deaths as well. So naturally, "progressives" are against it.

Different Views

From Hayden Brown, NRA Instructor, Kirbyville, MO:
The NRA Institute for Legislative Action is wrong in their assessment of House Bill 2057.
Tomorrow, the Missouri House Committee on Emerging Issues is scheduled to hear House Bill 2057.  Sponsored by state Representative Mike Bernskoetter (R-59), HB 2057 specifies that no additional fee beyond $100 may be charged to process concealed carry permit applications.
Please do not support HB 2057.  Although it limits the application fee to $100, it adds late fees and penalties when renewing.  As you may be aware, Sheriffs across the state are backlogged with applications and renewals and adding late fees would discourage renewals.  Like poll taxes, increased renewal fees would harm those most in need, and least able to absorb the increase in cost.
House Bill 2057 is wrong for Missouri!
I'm sure the Fairfax Über Alles crowd will be quick to attack this the same way they're attacking GOA over its rejection of the McAwful deal. And for the record, I'm not completely on board with that group's offered rationale.

My concern with the GOA approach is it briefly touches on but doesn't emphasize a more fundamental "due process" issue. We see in the recent Fourth Circuit panel decision the danger of treating 2A as some sort of lesser or inferior right.

Here's what should matter and what should be insisted on:

Has the person been convicted of a crime?  Did he have a jury trial where he was proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt?

That's what matters to me. I consider it more important than asking some usurper for permission to claim what I'm entitled to.

National socialists! [More]

That's not news around here, of course. But it's a well-written piece that summarizes things nicely for people who will never get around to reading "Hitler and the Socialist Dream," although that's a handy reference to keep in case anyone demands a more "scholarly" cite.

And I must say, I got a real kick seeing I'm not the only one who found Peewee references appropriate.
