This swift work apparently consists of getting the bill to ban "assault weapons" quickly back into the mill.
But now go back and reread the original report of the spree shooting -- you will notice what seems to be a conscientious and deliberate omission of ANY reference to the exact firearm(s) used.
We can state with great assurance that if the weapon used had been an "assault weapon," it would have been identified as such in the very first paragraph, if not the headline.
So we see the usual gun-grabber dance: hold a prepared ban in the hopper until a tragedy occurs that has even the vaguest (lack of) connection to its contents, then use the emotional momentum to smash it through.
They are all going to be put on "Double Secret Probation".
