A Prohibited Person

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for obstructing a federal investigation into corruption and civil rights violations at the jail that Baca supervised. [More]
Couldn't happen to a nicer gungrabber.

Baca gun permits for gifts report highlights pattern of hypocrisy and worse

“In fact, more than two dozen people who have given gifts or campaign contributions to the sheriff also have gun permits,” the report documents. “More than one out of every 10 permits issued to civilians went to people on Baca's gift list.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a Gun Grinch whose campaign chest grew three sizes that day.

We're the Only Ones Rich and Famous Enough

The sheriff has issued concealed-weapon permits to such actors as Ben Affleck, and in 1999, less than a year after being sworn in, he set up an “executive reserves” unit that allowed celebrities to wear a badge and carry a gun. All they had to do was take 64 hours of training and pass the department’s background check.

Critics of the program, who said it was nothing more than a sly way for Baca to pay back friends and supporters, were incensed when, less than a month after the unit was initiated, one of those reservists—Scott Zacky of the Zacky Farms chicken dynasty—was stripped of his badge for drawing a gun outside his Bel Air mansion after mistaking a couple on a date for car thieves. The unit was suspended in late 1999 after one member, a wealthy Baca supporter who owns a jewelry store, was arrested for money laundering.

Really?

We're the Only Ones Captivated Enough

Former L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca Likely Headed to Prison After Supreme Court Declines to Review Case [More]

Hang on a sec... I know I left my sympathy around here somewhere...

Nine Lives Had Elfego Baca

... an intense gun battle in which law enforcement unleashed more than 500 rounds. [More]
There's an "Only Ones" title in there somewhere, but the amount of ammo expended reminded me more of a post I saw the other day that in turn made me recall the TV of my youth, back before Disney was totally corrupted.

Anybody else remember this?

L.A. Sheriff’s Scandal Validates Key Oath Keepers Tenet

“Tanaka claimed he simply was following orders from his then boss, former sheriff Lee Baca..." [More]
So that doesn't work?  Who knew?

We're the Only Ones Corrupt Enough

Is it really so difficult to believe that there is widespread wrongdoing, and widespread lying about it, among U.S. law-enforcement agencies, particularly those in big, Democrat-run cities infamous for the corruption of their other municipal institutions? [More]
Not around here.

Glad to know I'm not the "only one" publicly calling out that Nazi swine Lee Baca.

We're the Only Ones Institutionalized Enough

"Our investigation also found that these incidents did not take place in a vacuum -- in fact, they demonstrated behavior that had become institutionalized," U.S. Attorney André Birotte Jr. said. "The pattern of activity alleged in the obstruction of justice case shows how some members of the Sheriff's Department considered themselves to be above the law." [More]
Gee, you mean it's more than "a few bad apples" and that punk SOB "Republican" gungrabber Lee Baca is part of the problem...?

Still, coming from the DOJ, that's rich.

Semitotalitarians

SB 374 would ban future sales of semiautomatic rifles that have detachable magazines. Those who already own  assault weapons without fixed magazines would be required to register them with the state by July 1, 2014. [More]
You know, like these guys helped register last time...
Countered Steinberg: “Do law abiding citizens need guns that can shoot 50 to 100 to 200 rounds at one time?”
Need one? Hell, I'd like to see one.

Naturally, gifted "Republican" Lee Baca is on board with the ban.

As I said, it will be interesting to see what Moonbeam does with these.

It will also be interesting to see what the "leadership" will advise California gun owners will do. I'd imagine a lawsuit centered around the "in common use at the time" concept... the thing is, the Ninth Circuit has shown its colors, and all SCOTUS then need do is...nothing.

An Elected Republican

Gualtieri is an elected Republican... [More]

Yeah, so are Lee Baca and Tom Ridge.

So is Mark Kirk.

So was John Chaffee.

Any gun owner who donates to national or state Republican party entities is helping them help these.

If you're going to support a politician, only do it on an individual basis.

A Driving Force

Anti-gun Sheriff Baca is for it.  So is anti-gun Chief Beck.

It's nice seeing people support the administration's agenda for a change!

The Peace Angel

Courtesy of Lee Baca, Republican. [Read]

It's not exactly like the fricking idiot knows what else to do about L.A.'s gang problem.

Me, I object.  Where's that "Wall of Separation" when you really need it, or doesn't that apply to collectivist religious totems?

Hello? ACLU?

We're the Only Ones Above the Influence Enough

In 2008, Baca announced plans to bar deputies from carrying firearms while intoxicated.

But the deputies union is fighting the rule, with critics saying it infringes on their rights. [More]
Yeah, who does he think he's dealing with? Citizens?

We're the Only Ones Valorous Enough

I guess that was why Sheriff Lee Baca bestowed the Medal of Valor on me; certainly, it accounts for the numerous other awards and commendations during my tenure with the department. [More]
That's funny--we were just talking about medals and awards.

I get taken to task in comments by the guy who longed for the good old days when cops could administer "street justice."

I had to use Google cache to link to the words he says I misunderstood, because the original page link keeps producing run time errors. Oh well, I'm sure it's just a temporary oversight, but just in case, grab the cache link while it works.

And as for "blowhard," hey, it was the OIR attorney I spoke with who used the term "puffery."

We're the Only Ones BS-ing You Enough

Sheriff's Deputy Gregory Anderson tags a gun after rendering it safe during the "Gifts for Guns" exchange at Lennox Middle School. [More]
Gosh, is that all it takes to render a gun safe enough to have at a middle school, so that we don't all go stampeding in hysteria...?

A piece of removable plastic and a uniform...?

It must be that powerful "Only Ones" juju at work again. Thank goodness, I can swallow my cud again in contentment and oblivion...

Speaking of which, check out some of the quotes from the herd.

Peter Jacob's wife Carol insists on his castration, and like a good steer he complies. What he'll be prepared to do should he and she encounter a bull is something we dare not contemplate.

And the unidentified retiree is evidently secure enough in his location, prowess and prescience to know he no longer "needs" the means of self defense.

Sounds like more bulls... to me...

Speaking of which, funding for this came from the Sheriff's Department. Remember that next time Lee Baca tells you he doesn't have enough, and needs to raise sales taxes.

Talk about bs...

We're the Only Ones Torturous Enough

After tricking his wife into introducing him to her lover, a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy held the couple captive overnight at an Irvine apartment complex where he beat them, forced them to undress at knife point and ordered the woman to castrate her younger suitor, authorities alleged Wednesday.

Deputy Robert A. McClain then allegedly sodomized his wife and chopped off her hair with the knife...
Gee, I wonder why she wanted to leave him?

I also wonder what particular form of sadism makes Sheriff Lee Baca think it's not cruel and unusual to enforce the citizens of Los Angeles being defenseless in public while he unleashes creatures like this on them--the "Only Ones" deemed humane, rational and trusted enough to bear arms. Unless they're rich and connected.

Tell me this guy has never abused anyone else.

We're the Only Ones Criminally Conspiring Enough

The evidence at trial showed that the defendant and his co-defendants were members of a wide-ranging criminal conspiracy, led by former Los Angeles police officer Ruben Palomares and including other law enforcement officers and drug dealers. Together, they committed more than 40 burglaries and robberies throughout the Los Angeles area between early 1999 and June of 2001. The robberies generally were committed after the group received information that a particular location was involved in illegal drug-trafficking. The robbery teams usually consisted of multiple sworn police officers in uniform or displaying a badge, who would gain access to the residence by falsely telling any occupants that they were conducting a legitimate search for drugs or drug dealers. Victims often were restrained, threatened or assaulted during the search. These assaults included firing a stun gun at a victim, striking victims with police batons and putting a gun in the mouth of a victim. When the group stole drugs, they would use co-conspirators to sell the drugs and they would split the profits among the group.
Yeah, these are "The Only Ones" trustworthy enough to be armed in LA, alright. Just try getting a "permit" (if you're not "connected") from Obergruppenführers Baca and Bratton.

But they're just "a few bad apples," right? From four different agencies, and all seriously warped enough to think the systems they operated within provided enough opportunities to make it worth the risk.

Why was it we're not supposed to have "ammunition capable of penetrating a police vest" again?

We're the Only Ones "Well Regulated" Enough

They call themselves the Regulators.

They wear tattoos of a skull-faced man holding a shotgun, fire screaming from its barrels. They refuse to testify against their buddies. They've been accused of extorting and intimidating those outside their ranks.

No, they're not members of a street gang. They're Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies at the Century station in Lynwood.

Uh, yes, they are too a street gang. And they're the "Only Ones" we need fear. The others we can repel by force, if necessary, and have at least a chance against the resulting legal consequences. If we defend ourselves from these thugs, the entire force and resources of the state will be brought down on us with a vengeance.

They've gone from "peace officers" to "law enforcement officers" to "regulators."

I can't think of a better example for explaining crime lord Lee Baca's insistence on keeping the populace his arrogant thugs "regulate" legally disabled from fighting back.

The Italian Rapscallion

The rumor that Sylvester Stallone was issued a CCW permit struck my interest as I had recently been made aware that he had attended a Los Angeles event sponsored by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. The "Brady Bunch", as they are commonly referred to by gun-rights advocates, are one of the most well known organizations that are lobbying to take away our rights as lawful gun owners. I was also learning that Stallone had been quoted in the past saying some very anti-gun statements, even advocating door to door gun confiscations!

I've written about Sheriff Baca's corrupt celebrity suck-up policies before, as well as Stallone's (and other Hollywood Squares') astounding good-for-me-but-not-for-thee hypocrisy.

My hat is off to RifleGear.com for an outstanding piece of investigative reporting--I can't help but note that "authorized journalists," who look down on "amateur" bloggers, never bring us this kind of information.

In an update, we find the story has been picked up by Cam & Co. Anybody holding their breath waiting on CNN, CBS, ABC...?
