We'll Do It Our Way

You'd think the people in charge would know one of the prime rules is to keep your hands off your face. [More]

I'm not surprised to see something this stupid, self-serving, tone-deaf and offensively trivializing promoting Acton and DeWine.

Ohio on Lockdown Starting Monday Night

Leaving home for essential activities will be permitted, DeWine said. [More]
I've been trying for the last 20 minutes waiting for the governor's damn website to load for a copy of the order to see just what it is he considers "essential."  Who could have anticipated people would want to know?

UPDATE-- Here is the order:

I don't see the right of the people to acquire firearms and ammunition as "essential" on an initial scan and I have to go out for a bit before I can do a thorough read.

UPDATE--On page 6:

It Depends Upon What the Meaning of the Word 'Safe' Is

SEC LAROSE: It's Safe to be a Poll Worker [Watch]
You lying idiots don't have a clue. This is beyond irresponsible. And I see they are removing negative comments. Let's see if they take this one down-- at which point I'll blast his ass on Twitter:

This is crap. Fletcher isn't fooled for a second.

I called off working the polls on Tuesday. My bout with respiratory illness is still ongoing, plus my age would make it self-destructive to risk it.

Ohio Republicans really are for the most part dolts. And don't get me started on Ohio Democrats.

UPDATE: And this just in from my local library via email:
In response to Governor Mike DeWine’s orders closing all K-12 schools and prohibiting mass gatherings, the Hudson Library will be closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13, and will remain closed until at least Sunday, April 5. This decision was not made lightly. The scientific evidence that social distancing can help stop the spread of the coronavirus was a compelling factor in making this difficult decision. We will continue to follow guidelines provided by our local, county and state health officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Good luck next election, Sec. LaRose.

UPDATE: Dr. Amy is basically an administrator and flack, and does not appear to have the specialty credentialing to make such definitive promises -- nor can she cite any peer-reviewed studies to back up her opinions. This may end up being grounds for both legal actions by those older poll workers and voters who follow her advice as well as for a medical ethics complaint.

Every Measure Possible

Good thing that has nothing to do with that "single issue."

What can I say but "DeWine"?

The Lesser of Two Intolerable Acts?

The leader of the Ohio House had pointed to a bill that would change gun and mental health laws as an alternative to Gov. Mike DeWine’s anti-gun violence package. [More
Where have I heard "We've GOT to give them SOMETHING" before?
After Sandy Hook, there was a cadre of insiders discussing appeasement measures to help quell the gun ban feeding frenzy, operating on the assumption that “we have to give them something—we can’t offer nothing!” Some colleagues and I were privy to those discussions, and we did our best to make it clear that any sign of weakness or surrender would be loudly condemned. Instead, our unequivocal warning to politicians was: WE WON’T STAND FOR SCAPEGOATING NO NEW GUN LAWS DENY SUCCESS TO MASS MURDERERS BY ABOLISHING PHONY ‘GUN-FREE’ VICTIM / KILLER-ENABLING ZONES NOW WORK WITH US OR WE WILL WORK TO RETIRE YOU
As for DeSwine, he'll never get my vote no matter what.

DeWine On Again/Off Again with Gun-Grabber Roots

Somewhere along the way DeWine wet his finger, stuck it boldly in the air and decided it was time for those “principles” the Bradys praised him over to reverse polarity. It’s not like he really changed, but he told the gun groups what they wanted to hear to reverse his ratings from “F” to “A,” and stopped saying and doing stupid stuff to make covering his past with nose-holding “Republican über alles” gun owners more difficult. Another Reason to Vote Republican!

Add crappy roads with a 10.5 cent/gallon gas tax hike and a sales tax on purchases of gold and silver coins and bullion, and thanks, Republican-dominated legislature and Gov. DeWine!

And yeah, I saw he just backed down on some of his more egregious gun-grab threats but I'm not impressed.  I have a FirearmsNews piece in the works that will explain why.

Commonsense Metaphor Safety Laws

The Ohio Highway Patrol is reviewing comments made by a leader of a pro-gun rights group following the unveiling of a package of gun control proposals by Gov. Mike DeWine. [More]
That's has a more chilling effect than anything Chris Dorr said.

DeWine's Infringement Initiative

Q&A on Gov. DeWine's Safety Initiative [More]
First, I wouldn't call it that.

Good on BFA for opposing registration-enabling and red herring edicts.

That said, as far as "enforce existing gun laws" goes, I've always equated that with "enforcing existing Intolerable Acts." And as far as enhanced "felon with a gun" punishments, that net could catch those who will not comply, or alternatively, act as a flimsy sieve to allow those who can't be trusted without a custodian to remain predatory dangers stalking among us.

Warn't Us

Contrary to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's claim that his new gun control measures have been "crafted by Second Amendment supporters," Ohioans for Concealed Carry has not helped design, and does not support, Gov. DeWine's proposal.  [More]
OK, so who did and what did they tell him?

Once a Gun-Grabber Always a Gun-Grabber

Gov. DeWine calls for lawmakers to pass red-flag law, stronger background checks to fight gun violence [More]
I hate to say "I told you so."

Repeatedly, consistently and for years.

I Saw This Debate on South Park

Cordray, the former attorney general of Ohio appointed by Obama to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, is locked in a dead-heat race with Republican state Attorney General Mike DeWine... [More]
And gun owners are supposed to get fire in our bellies...?

Will it boil down to who is more dangerous?

Perhaps I should let the candidates speak for themselves.

We're the Only Ones Unconcealed Enough

Miami Beach Police Draw Down On, Detain, Disarm, And Throw Around Lawful Open Carriers [More]
Cops that don't know the law endangering lawfully-armed citizens with the threat of lethal force? Reminds me Mike DeWine -- it took a couple killings for him to finally decide that maybe some of us (OK, me) calling on him to make damned certain these guys received adequate training were on to something.

The Redeemed

Buckeye Firearms Association PAC Endorses Mike DeWine for Governor [More]
Because if we can't trust a past Brady Campaign endorsee, who can we trust?

Oh, but he's changed?

Can't prove it by me.

His deliberate indifference to ensuring police know the law in re open carry is still leaving gun owners at risk from overzealous Ohio "Only Ones."

Besides, can anyone produce a public apology for past transgressions where he admitted he was wrong, explained why to show he understood, and begged forgiveness of those he betrayed?

And lest we forget:

  • Voted YES on establishing a Guest Worker program.
  • Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security.
  • Voted YES on giving Guest Workers a path to citizenship.
  • Voted YES on allowing more foreign workers into the US for farm work.
  • Voted YES on visas for skilled workers.
  • Cover child resident aliens under Medicaid and SCHIP.

Fortunately, none of this has anything to do with that "single issue."

I mean, it's not like that sets Ohio on course to turn blue a few years down the road, right, BFA?

We're the Only Ones Protected from On High Enough

It took more than four years, however, for the sheriff to finally be brought to justice, and it was no thanks to Mike DeWine, no matter how many times he claims otherwise. It was, in fact, despite DeWine’s continuing efforts to protect him that Overmyer was convicted on multiple drug and theft charges last year and sent to a state prison. [More]
DeSwine exemplifying hypocrisy by straddling both sides of the fence...? Aw, go on.

DeWine reverses decision to ignore improved law enforcement training

It is admittedly unknown if such training, had it been seriously adopted and conducted, would have mattered in the Crawford and Rice cases, or if the specific circumstances leading to their shootings would have shown Ohio law regarding openly carrying arms to be irrelevant. Would it have made a difference if DeWine (and Cordray and Rogers before him) had acted on the documented warnings? That is a question for attorneys for family survivors to pursue, and if they do, it will be up to courts to decide. [More]
Today's Gun Rights examiner report notes another reversal from a guy who seems to specialize in them whenever they're the political thing to do. Noting the truism about "progressives" and Opposite Day, is it any wonder the Brady Campaign praised this fraud as a "principled statesman" -- until he figured out which side the votes were on?

We're the Only Ones Adding Fuel to the Fire Enough

Just in time for the Ferguson announcement! [More]

Went for his waistband? That's a new one!

As I've noted before, I had more freedom as a boy in the Shah's Iran than most children do today in the land of the Second Amendment.

Fun times in Cleveland again...

Thing is, this is the second shooting of a person of color with a non-firearm by Ohio "Only Ones" that's occurred after AG Mike DeWine washed his hands of making sure they are properly trained on dealing with citizens they see with guns...

The attorney for John Crawford's family never acknowledged this, so I don't know if he's going to pursue it:

Perhaps attorney Timothy J. Kucharski representing the family of Tamir Rice will show some interest. Because it seems all the "legitimate news media" wants to do is point out there was no orange tip, repeat the waistband allegation, and not tell us the names of "the officers [who] have been placed on administrative leave."

And So It Begins

I know, pretty dumb sticker.

There was a good turnout at 6:45 a.m., 15 minutes after the polls opened. If that's any indication of how the day will proceed, there will be lines -- at least in my neck of the woods.

Yo, Mike DeWine: I abstained from voting for AG.  You exemplify where I draw the line.

And yeah, I also know the "choices" I did go with are hardly perfect.

Neither am I.

DeWine refusal to release shooting video raises conduct and training questions

The appeal was made to DeWine after two Ohio cops were caught “joking” on Facebook about “double-tapping” open carriers. Along with documentation of that claim, examples of actual illegal threats and abuse by police against open carriers were recited, and concerns were expressed that unless rectified, not only were citizens at risk of being wrongfully detained, injured or killed by police, but their departments and the State of Ohio faced real liability.

DeWine’s response was to ignore the request, to make implausible excuses, to wash his hands of the matter, and to show deliberate indifference. [More]
Today’s Gun Rights Examiner report recalls a warning that may have gone unheeded with fatal results.
