Muddying the Waters

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., on Monday launched an outlandish attack against three Republican senators who support Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, accusing them of somehow being “pro-pedophile.” [More]

Well, if "even the conservative National Review" sides with Yahoo!News, who am I to argue?

Anybody else getting a Pynchon vibe out of the way they're directing the focus?

The Devil's in the Details

 Received via email:

That's being asked by these hive insects who really want to use what they get back from a mailing to their followers to bray about the majority of Americans wanting laws requiring us to lock our guns and ammunition up separately.

That Mr. Pynchon, him plenty smart fella.

Sympathy for the Devil

American colonists called him a tyrant. But was King George III really so bad? [More]
Mr. Pynchon has a relevant observation.

Now consider the right question.

The Wrong Questions

Biden hasn’t ordered dishonorable discharges for vaccine refusers in military, as viral post claimed [More]

True. And only an idiot (or a plant trolling for suckers) would make such a claim. That doesn't invalidate the FACT that the danger exists for those fighting back and losing. But it sure makes it look that way.

Case in point (via Michael G):

Veteran of Afghanistan war with heart conditions faces possible dishonorable discharge for refusing COVID vaccine

Here's another tactical Politifact deception:

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine contains an “undisclosed ingredient. … How is informed consent possible?”

That calculated dismissal presumes that's the only informed consent issue presented and ignores the FACT that Andy Nguyen has zero medical qualifications and has no idea what other dangers, especially long-term ones, will manifest.

But don't take my word for how agenda-driven Politifact always has been.

You could go down the line with ratings these narrative amplifiers post and see how many fit right in with Mr. Pynchon's truism:

“If they can get you asking the wrong questions, they don’t have to worry about answers.”

What If?

What if Republicans had a party and Trump wasn't there? [More]

Been a while since we heard from Mr. Pynchon...

But by all means, Ben Terris of The Washington Post, feel free to nominate a new avatar.

Because Crenshaw ain't it.

ANTs in her Pants

Let’s examine what happens when a fatal shooting occurs: Is it the gun that kills people, as gun control advocates insist? Or is it the person holding the gun, as gun rights advocates insist? ANT would say the answer lies in a different question, highlighting the matrix that enables the action: the pull of the trigger, the explosion of gunpowder, even the humidity of the air that the bullet travels through to reach its target. [More]

I'm not sure where she's going with this, but I won't be surprised to find out humidity is racist.

And what does Mr. Pynchon remind us?

It Depends Upon What the Meaning of the Word 'Developed' Is

In the developed world, these levels of gun violence are a uniquely American problem. Here’s why. [More]

GIGO

People with high emotional intelligence less likely to fall for ‘fake news’ [More]

Nope, no researcher bias when the first example the "study" presents characterizes a cherry-picked challenge to the climate change wealth transfer fraud as "fake."

So if you support "progressive" government usurpation, you're smarter than that dumb old basket of deplorables. Q.E.D.

What did Mr. Pynchon warn us about?

Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics

Report finds that 93% of Black Lives Matter protests in the US were peaceful [More]

I guess that includes those by Hudson Antifa and similar virtue-oozing "demonstrations," where a dozen of so privileged useful idiot white kids and "adults" stood on street corners in well-heeled communities asking cars to honk?

If we're going to be selective, how about all those gatherings where tens of thousands of the armed traditional Americans the collectivist narrative deems to be the greatest threat have gathered for years -- and which have been 100% peaceful?

Mr. Pynchon sees what ACLED did there.

And Don't Forget to Wash Behind Your Ears

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner on Monday urged residents to wear face masks, practice good hygiene and maintain social distancing to help slow the rate of new infections. [More]
What does it say when their own sympathizers feel the need to publicly remind them of hygiene?  I'd think ay responsible adult would be offended and were it disproportionately targeted to a specific demographic would infer racism.

Evidently, for Democrats, it's a real political boost.

What really struck me though, was the presumptuous "poll":

We haven't consulted Mr. Pynchon for a while...

Skew & A

This was a “nationwide” telephone survey of 1,003 people, supposedly randomly dialed. There is no further information on methodology. But given the questions they asked, no methodology was going to save them. [More]

There aren't.

Mr. Pynchon warned us about this.

Public policy based on asking misleading questions of people who don't understand the issues is no way to run a Republic.

Today in Misdirection

Ken Starr says Hillary Clinton DID trigger Vince Foster's suicide when she humiliated him in front of White House staff and admits he omitted the finding in FBI report because he didn't want to 'inflict further pain' on her [More]
Why bring this up now? Is somebody getting close to something?

And why does a Thomas Pynchon line come to mind?

The Wrong Question

Do persons under 21 have any Second Amendment rights? [More]
Well, seeing as how it's settled that "This is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence," perhaps we ought to consult with Mr.Pynchon before answering that.
