Not Out of the Woods Yet

Jackson didn't think the shooter would face charges but said the investigation is ongoing. [More]
Well there's always civil court... plus, depending on what we find out after he dead perp is ID'd, don't count out pressure from the DOJ, emphasis on him being "unarmed,' and the obligatory childhood portraits showing him to be a little bundle of sweet potential...

We're the Only Ones Panty-Raiding Enough

Thank goodness "Homeland Security" doesn't have any actual homeland security issues to deal with. [More]

You know, aside from treating some of us like domestic extremist threats...

One thing: If I had a newspaper, with reporters, and resources and everything, I'd consider it in the public interest to name some names besides the victim.

Who ordered the raid? Who participated in it? Who sought the warrant?  Which judge signed it? Were other agencies involved?  Who, by name, and what role did each play?

Then I'd go on to other details, like why was DHS involved with this? What else do they have their fingers in that bears no relation to their chartered mission?

Did the Royals try to resolve this without having the goons sent in? You know, have someone just call the lady up and explain why if they let one person use their logo, it opens the door to losing control?  Maybe thank her for cooperating and send her a ball cap, or else follow it up with a cease and desist letter from corporate lawyers if she sounded resistant?

What the hell is this show of force over this?  What the hell has become of this country, when that's the official response and most people just shrug and move along?

That is, unless there's more to this story. I can't tell from the linked piece.

Stripped Down to the Basics

This is why banning good people from having guns in bars is another area we should never cede. [More]

I don't even mind if they drink. What I mind is if they endanger others and/or initiate violence, in which case, I insist on the ability to extricate me and mine from the situation.

Do you have guns and alcohol in your home?  I do.

If I wanted to, there is nothing to stop me from hitting up the Makers Mark while armed. Right now, as I type.

Except me.  If you don't like that, tough.

Everyone I know can be responsible in the presence of both.

You Can't SEE Me...

[T]he decision to hand off the case shows Christie, a possible 2016 presidential candidate, does not want to call attention to the state’s restrictive gun controls. Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak says the governor supports the state’s gun restrictions. [More]
Sorry, but that ploy provides very poor cover.

Another Child Gun Death

Again, we shouldn't give a damn if this feral little savage is a minor.  We should want to know what the dangers in our AOs are. [More]

Oh, and looky here:
The victim did not resist and complied with all demands, police said, but the gunman still opened fire.
Don't listen to Moms Demand Field Corn by giving them what they want. Give them what they deserve.

You Will Respect My Port Authoritah

No I won't. [More]

I don't give a damn what the black-robed pirates say. (What is this, Theme Day? One more and we'll have a "spate.")

We're the Only Ones Unserved Enough

Police Officers Refused Service at Buffalo Wild Wings Because of Guns [More]
Who do these guys think they are, Denny's?

Ordinarily, this wouldn't qualify as an "Only Ones" post, because Buffalo Wild Wings treated them with the same predator-enabling contempt it shows for its "regular" customers.

But the jackboot-licking-good manager wouldn't have issued an apology to you or me, would he?

We're the Only Ones Multi-Lingual Enough

A black man fired at the end of his 18-month probationary period as a Pennsylvania state trooper says he was wrongly let go for false claims that he didn’t properly write reports, and sometimes used “Ebonics” in doing so. [More]
You didn't want to work there anyway, my homie.

There's a place that appreciates your unique talents.

We're the Only Ones Unidentified Enough

The firing officer, whom police haven’t identified, thought Davies was an armed threat in the dark of night, the spokesman said. [More]
They didn't identify the shooter in the dog mixup, either.

We're the Only Ones Treated Far Differently Enough

A Star investigation of two decades of cases probed by the SIU found that police officers are treated far differently than civilians when accused of shooting, beating, running over and killing people. [More]
Yeah, no duh. That's why they're "The Only Ones." Besides, what overworked accountant couldn't use a little break?

Don't expect the "Authorized Journalists" at the Star to make any connections, though...

Inventory Tracking

The FBI and other police agencies don't need a search warrant to track the locations of Americans' cell phones, a federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday in a precedent-setting decision. [More]
Well of course not.

Why wouldn't they be able to keep tabs on their chattel?

Life sure will be a lot simpler once we get those implants.

We're the Only Ones Serial Enough

Police Sergeant Had Secret Life as Serial Rapist
Decorated Cop and Devoted Husband, Jeffrey Pelo, Sentenced to Over 400 Years in Prison [More]
I don't get it--this happened in Illinois?

Why the hell didn't his victims just:
1. Vomit
2. Surrender
3. Scream (while poking with "a rat tail comb") or
4. Pull the covers over their heads?

With all these options, he still got away with it?

We're the Only Ones On the Beat Enough

What started as a walk to the park with his dogs ended with a trip to the hospital for a Denver dog owner. 32-year-old Mark Ashford says he was beaten black and blue by two Denver Police officers. [More]
That'll teach him to offer an abuse victim his services as a witness! We won't stand for "uppity"!

Make sure you watch the video.

Notice the headline said "New case"? Here's the other recent one.

It's a good thing we have all those cameras, as this Denver Police incident shows. That way, we can turn them away when the beating starts--but in fairness it does redirect to let us watch the kid get dragged into the cruiser and see a door slammed on his ankle.

That'll teach him to call his dad when a friend is being manhandled!

Make sure you watch that video, too.

Why do they do it? Because based on results, they think they can get away with it.

It's not like Denver "Only Ones" assaulting citizens hasn't been known about for a long time. Hell, a few years back, they even made souvenir shirts bragging about it. And nothing has been done about it.

They have to get caught on tape being thugs, and then the weasel-wording starts.

These guys are asking to get pushed back. And if it happens, it will include all the 'good apples" who keep their mouths shut and go along to get along.

When those of us who have predicted a day of reckoning see it unfold, exactly what is our incentive supposed to be to put ourselves at risk trying to intervene? And if vicious brutality is directed at us or those we love, will it really be all that hard to understand if some refuse to submit, and take it on themselves to restore law and order?

We're the Only Ones "May I Have the Envelope, Please?" Enough

TSA Agent Accused of Stealing Cash from Wheelchair-Bound Woman [More]
But the fedgov doesn't trust us at airports...

Comedy gold from the accompanying video:
"They're federal employees, so you wouldn't expect anything like that to happen to you..."
Ha! Good one!

Quick show of hands: Who has anyone in your life that you consider a friend who would even think about stealing from a woman in a wheelchair?

Who would want anything to do with anyone like that?

A Modest Proposal

After disbanding their police department, Pewaukee officials are trying to find out why 58,000 rounds of ammunition were left and what they should do with it. [More]
I don't suppose you guys have any of those "who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people" types who could put it to good use...?

I know, I know. I can't claim that as my original idea.

Considered Basic By Many

Hansen, the criminal-justice student, grows especially exasperated when recalling a scary incident a few years ago as she waited for a bus. She said a carload of drunken men approached her until the police helicopter that had been trailing them turned a spotlight on the men and chased them off. Now the helicopter is gone, and the streetlight she was waiting under is threatened as well. [More]
And a "criminal justice student" discovering that the police can't protect you is a bad thing...why?

The right of the people to keep and bear arms is something many of us consider basic. If the government that admits it can't save us ever stops infringing on that, we can revisit the public safety issue after a while.

Still, expect the punishment to continue--because the alternative would be to do something about this:
Broadmoor luxury resort chief executive Steve Bartolin wrote an open letter asking why the city spends $89,000 per employee, when his enterprise has a similar number of workers and spends only $24,000 on each.

Beyond E.J. Dionne's Absurdism

The National Rifle Association wields power that would make an Afghan warlord jealous because the organization is thought to command legions of one-issue voters ready to punish any deviationism from the never-pass-any-new-gun-laws imperative. [More]
Dionne impresses me as being just ignorant and insulated enough to believe that.

As for the Luntz poll, the argument seems to be we can believe it because he's a weasel-wording republican tool.

Right.

We've seen the fraud of the "terror watchlist" for what it is. What seems clear is neither Luntz nor any in his poll supporting it are so informed.

The other thing we haven't established? How did Luntz confirm any of his respondents actually are NRA members? After all, as long as we're talking pollsters:
Roughly 20 Million Americans Align Themselves With NRA

Polling data indicates that 10% of households claim to have an NRA member. That means roughly 20 million Americans align themselves with NRA. This number is obviously higher than actual NRA membership and is explained by the fact that many people who identify with NRA consider themselves members even if their membership has lapsed. (Zogby International, 2000)
I note the new poll was sponsored by Mayors Against Guns. Y'know, if they spent more time making sure their members weren't dipping into the poor box...

No Guns/No Business

Thunder Canyon Brewery in Tucson AZ doesn't think you're responsible enough to carry a gun on their premises. [More]

Presumably, "Only Ones" like this guy would be exempt.

I can't use that card because I'm not certified.

Meanwhile, Across the Pond in Sarah Brady Paradise...

"They immediately started slashing me with a knife and kicking and punching me. I was knifed maybe ten or 11 times with a large blade which looked like it had a very sharp serrated edge.

'I kept thinking they were going to stab me in the eyes but amazingly they missed my eyes by a few centimetres. They said: "If you have any final words, say them now before we kill you".' [More]
Funny, I didn't read where the droogs performed "Singin' in the Rain"...

Best comment to demonstrate the absolute degeneracy of some:
To all the gun totin' americans that seem to think the right to bear arms is the be all and end all of law and order; 1. gun ownership just ups the ante... if you have a gun, you can damn well be sure any criminal will feel compelled to bring a gun along, and 2. private gun ownership certainly doesn't stop violent crime in your country, does it?- NH, Yorks, 1/10/2009 4:57
You keep on believing that, subject. Right up until they grab your gulliver by the ookos, smash out your zoobys and ram your krovvy rot in with a bit of ultra-violence...

Or better yet, while they do that to a loved one and you're absolutely useless doing anything about it, you disgusting invertebrate.
