Shameless Plug: When Aliens Attack!

The danger won’t come from Bug-Eyed Monsters or Little Green Men, ravings from the loopy peacenik crowd notwithstanding. The real danger traces directly back to those who decry self defense—for sovereign nations as well as sovereign individuals. But in the Orwellian world of the internationalists, fear of flying saucers merits treaties. Fear of global government bent on a monopoly of power is gibbering paranoia from conspiracy kooks.

"When Aliens Attack!" is my Rights Watch column for the April 2006 issue of GUNS Magazine, on sale now at out-of-this-world newsstands throughout the known Universe.

BONUS: See page 100 to find out how you can win a Magnum Research BFR .50 AE single-action revolver.

Mar. 1956 GUNS Now Online

A .55 caliber tank rifle--for $74.95? F.O.B. Los Angeles???

No, we're not in an alternate universe, simply a different time--and one that some of us were alive in. That just goes to show you how much we have lost--and how much that we now deem unbelievable was once commonplace and unquestioned.

Did you know there was also a Buffalo Bill Comstock, and that William F. Cody, who used the same "cognomen," beat him in a hunting demonstration to seal his claim to the name?

You know how politicians tell us guns and bars don't mix? Take a tour of the Military Inn in Dearborn, MI, with its collection of over 10,000 firearms, and see the Governor admiring a Colt believed to be the handgun used to kill Jesse James. (Finger off that trigger, Governor--and you, too, "Annie Oakley.")

Meet a 76-year-old who splits cards at 100 yards, and make the acquaintance of "America's Prettiest Shotgunner." Then admire the craftsmanship of Holland & Holland, "The Finest Gun Makers On Earth."

These features and more are included in the Mar. 1956 issue of GUNS Magazine, now online for free download.

Enjoy.

Victory in Glendale

In "Treason in Glendale," I passed along information about a proposed ordinance to ban guns and ammunition on city property in Glendale, CA. It turns out my suspicion that this was aimed at killing the Glendale Gun Show was correct, as a news account that Nicki Fellenzer reported on proved.

I got this follow-up from activist Steve Dergarabetian :
We sent hundreds of emails throughout the day urging the council members to vote against it. We went to the City Council meeting. The subject of the ordinance came up around 7:30 PM. The city attorney advised the mayor that he recieved an email from Chuck Michel, the NRA's attorney, of a lawsuit if this ordinance passed. The mayor wanted to postpone the vote, but Councilman Yousefian insisting on voting & killing the deal once and for all. At that point, the other 3 voiced their support for the 2nd Amendment and how they gave an oath to the Constitution when they were elected.

So basically, it went down 4 to 1 and we won. The motion was withdrawn forever (until next time at least).

By the way, there is a show at Glendale this coming Saturday & Sunday.

You can access individual webpages for the council, including their email addresses, by clicking here. A note of appreciation to the council members for their correct vote--and particularly to Mr. Yousefian for taking point on this-- would not be out of order. Mayor Manoukian might also benefit from some insights from freedom-minded people...

How Come...?

SAF says they're suing New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin along with NRA...

...But NRA doesn't share credit with SAF in their announcement?

I'd say this might be an oversight (if I was in the bridge market), except this isn't the first time this has happened...

2006 NRA Board Candidate Questionnaire

NRA Board of Director elections are upon us again. If you're a voting member and have complete faith in "The Winning Team," there's no need to read further--just mark your ballots with any of up to 26 of the 29 Nominating Committee recommendations.

If you have concerns about the direction current management has taken the organization, if their method of assigning political ratings seems less than straightforward, if you believe we should repeal, rather than enforce existing gun laws, if you are troubled by perceived compromises, and if you share the concerns of many in the gun community over "Project Exile" and its spin-offs, perhaps you'll want to see how candidates would answer the following questions before giving them your support.

Ballots are due back no later than April 30, so there's not a lot of time to elicit responses, nor can I find a centralized resource to communicate with these candidates so we can learn more about them than the brief bios printed in the magazine.

It probably doesn't matter--I do this as an exercise to demonstrate what I think an involved and activist membership should be demanding--I don't really expect this to be more than a curiosity among a handful of ornery dissenters like me.

And the world keeps on spinnin'.

Let me know if you can get any to respond.

1. Do you believe that the Constitution is the "supreme law of the land" and that the Bill of Rights acknowledges the birthrights of all Americans?

2. If so, should these rights be proactively protected from infringement by all levels of government, including city, county and state?

3. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider constitutional.

4. Please give some examples of gun laws you consider unconstitutional.

5. Does the right to bear arms include the right for any peaceable citizen to carry them concealed without a permit, as in Vermont?

6. Do you believe that Americans have a right to own, use and carry weapons of military pattern?

7. Do you support or oppose Project Exile, and do you agree with current NRA management’s call to “enforce existing gun laws”?

8. Do you support or oppose licensing requirements to own or carry firearms? Why?

9. What specific gun laws will you work to get repealed?

10. If elected to the NRA Board, will you back your words of support for firearms rights up with consistent actions? How?

11. Do you agree with the way NRA assigns political ratings? If not, what would you change and why? Who would you have given a different rating to, what would it been and why?

12. Do you disagree with any policies being promulgated by NRA management? What is you biggest area of dissent? Have you offered superior alternatives and worked with others to implement them?

13. Have you ever publicly spoken out against an NRA position because you thought it was wrong? When, where, and what were the results?

14. What reforms do you think are needed at NRA and why?

15. If elected, how will you inform members of your performance and voting record? Will you let us know when you dissent and why?

We're the Only Ones HIGHLY Professional Enough...

A POLICE marksman in Britain's "gun capital" shot himself dead with his force weapon at his HQ...Confirming no one else was involved, police said: "We are devastated at this tragic loss. He was a highly professional, well regarded officer."
One shudders to imagine the outcome had he been a mere amateur...

"Maybe They Should Try 'Project Exile'"

Maybe they should try “Project Exile,” the program developed by a federal prosecutor and endorsed by the National Rifle Association that put the fear of God in felons in Richmond, Va., and drastically reduced violent crime and illegal gun possession in that city.

Treason in Glendale

I just got an urgent plea forwarded to me about tonight's City Council meeting in Glendale, CA, where an ordinance will be introduced for "Prohibiting the Possession or Sale of Firearms & Ammunition on City Property" (see Item 8, pg. 2).

Without further information, I can only speculate that some evil stooge in City government has decided to sabotage the Glendale Gun Show, held at the Glendale Civic Auditorium.

I know it's short notice, but if you're in the area, please go lend your voice against this naked and contemptuous attack on gun owners. My experience with Councils is that they can be cowed by a substantial number of pissed off constituents.

I see 3 Armenian names on the Council--perhaps a history lesson on the real-life consequences of disarmed peoples might be appropriate?

When: Tonight, Tues. Feb 28, 6:00 pm
Where: Glendale City Hall, Council Chambers, 613 E. Broadway, 2nd Floor Glendale, CA 91206

MMM Gallery IV (v2.0)

Here's one other I don't know how I missed, from Blognomicon--and it was from a couple weeks back (Alan--how come you didn't throw something at me to wake me from my negligent stupor?). I figured it should be a standalone post due to the nature of the subjects in v1.0, below.

This is really pretty funny, although I don't expect the fanatics at Control Arms to get the joke--or appreciate it if they did.

MMM Gallery IV (v1.0)

As I mentioned as an update to yesterday's Million Moon March Gallery, I totally overlooked a major contributor to this effort, Thus I Have Spoken.

His latest successes should give us all sober pause. We've had some fun with the Control Arms globalist gungrabbers, but SteamDragon brings us a reminder of the evil that results from forced government disarmament.

Please take a moment to reflect on the lives of:

Melissa

Shari

Rachel and children

Kathie, Chanel and Jennifer

If you don't know who these people are, a few moments over at SteamDragon's blog should make things clear.

MMM Gallery IV

If you don't yet know what the Million Moon March is about, click here and check out some of the links--you'll soon get the idea.

And now for the latest submissions to the Control Arms Campaign:

Cowboy Blob got the first acceptance of the week with a couple of tourists to "The Happiest Disarmed Place on Earth."

M-I-C: See you real soon!

K-E-Y: Why? Because they like him!

It really is a small world after all!

Free Constitution tells us Million Facers Mao, Vladimir and Hideki all have good reasons to respectively be safe from armed violence, invoke arms trade treaties, and provide no arms for atrocities. After all, why spoil a sweet deal with competition if you don't have to?

Be sure and let us know if they make the cut, OK, Stan?

Do you remember that old peace song from the 60's, "Abraham, Martin and John"? Well Captain of a Crew of One posted his own version of today's peace leaders over at the Million Faces campaign: Robert, Muhammad and Omar.

I understand Sailor Curt may have mixed up Muhammad's geography a bit, but hey, we're all gonna be one great big peaceful disarmed world anyway, right? Just one question for Dion about his 60's peace hit, though--how come you didn't sing anything about "my old friend Bobby" wiretapping "my old friend Martin"? And isn't working with Phil Spector a blast?

But I digress. Fortunately, The Mad Hatter (aka "Jeremy H") reins things back in with three (count 'em!) successful posts, and the wry observation that someone over at Control Arms just might be one toke over the line (I thought we might be on a 60's song kick for a second, but then noticed Brewer & Shipley didn't record this 'til '71...) Anyway, say "Hello" to my li'l friends, the "unpredictable" Hermann...uhhh...Manuel, the "neighborly" David (aka Dylan, and I don't mean folksinger Bob, and the "handy" Anderson, who just needed to tone down a bit on the emotions to gain acceptance.

Meanwhile, Oscar Poppa treats us to a plea from south of the border, where Vinnie shows he's crazy like a Fox by encouraging the loco gringos to disarm. Doesn't this picture just scream "Trust me"?

Speaking of trust, Ride Fast & Shoot Straight has earned it two more times from the Million Facers, who agree with Martin's demand to "Get tough on arms," as well as Vidkun's plea to "Make me safe from armed violence" (especially the firing squad kind, eh Viddie?)

Finally, we have correspondent Cliff Reed, who has been trying mightily to introduce Charley M to the list of Control Arms-approved Predators on Parade.

Keep trying, Cliff. Based on the gallery of thugs they've posted to date, they're probably just concerned that he's not bloody-handed enough to join such august company--at least without first being vetted by the admissions committee.

UPDATE:

I owe SteamDragon a BIG APOLOGY. He got a bunch of good pictures in, and in my haste yesterday, I overlooked posting them here.

SD--I'm sorry. I'll do an exclusive gallery on your successful posts tomorrow.

We're the Only Ones Dreamy Enough...

A constable of the State Reserve Police (SRP) sustained a bullet injury on his left arm when his service gun, which was kept on the bed, accidentally went off while he was sleeping on Sunday afternoon...the incident took place when Bhadoriya was sleeping in the camp and had kept his 303 rifle on the bed. "While, he tried to turn up in the bed the gun accidentally went off and injured him in the left arm."
Good grief.

The Blagojevich and Daley Show

Well, when it comes to gun laws, if there’s one thing we now know about Mayor Daley and Gov. Rod Blagojevich, it’s that they are for anything but common sense legislation.
And when it comes to Blagojevich on The Dailey Show, here's another example of Rod proving himself to be an out-of-touch cultural maroon.

[Thanks to HZ]

Sometimes, the Sword is Mightier Than the Pen...

"Journalists increasingly are being targeted in conflict largely because they have lost, in the eyes of certain elements, their status as neutral observers. If they bear arms they reinforce this misguided belief by placing themselves on one side or another," said the INSI director, Rodney Pinder.

"A journalist with a gun says 'some people in the situation I'm covering are my enemies and I am prepared to kill them if necessary'. That is not the position of a neutral civilian."

Pinder, of course, is the same genius who once observed "To be a killer of a journalist is a relatively safe operation." That he's out there making it even safer doesn't seem to sway him much.

I'm just glad our own domestic journalist, Geraldo Rivera, saw the wisdom of carrying a gun in Afghanistan and then came back and used his influence to advocate the same right to armed defense for the rest of us.

What? He just believes in himself being armed and still supports disarming the masses?

Never mind.

Don Knotts, RIP

As the bug-eyed deputy to Griffith, Knotts carried in his shirt pocket the one bullet he was allowed after shooting himself in the foot. The constant fumbling, a recurring sight gag, was typical of his self-deprecating humor.

G'night, Barney. Thanks for all those years of entertainment.

I think I'll go rent "No Time for Sergeants," where he so hilariously perfected that high-strung character.

The LA Times also has a real nice write-up on his life and career.

Hey Kids, Do You Know What Day It Is?

It's Second Amendment Saturday!

We're the Only Ones Retentive Enough

Constable Elizabeth Roth, 34, was on duty at Wetherill Park police station when the man, who was known to police, jumped the counter about 6.30am (AEDT) today and snatched her pistol.

The man turned the weapon on Constable Roth, who was working alone in the south-western Sydney station, shooting her once.
I have a great way to prevent this from ever happening again.

Develop "smart guns."

Then require everyone to have them except the police.

What?

They're already planning that?

Hoist By His Own Petard

Federal agents have revoked the firearms license of a prominent Baltimore County gun shop.

Valley Guns, of Parkville, is owned by Sanford Abrams, who is a National Rifle Association board member.

Hey, "enforce existing gun laws," right?

Taking Shots at America's Gun Culture

Still, he returned for the 2005 festival with his third film, Dear Wendy, in which he directed a von Trier screenplay about Americans and their firearms, starring Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot) as a teenager who writes a love letter to his gun.

There's an old maxim, "write what you know."

See, that's the thing--this movie's not about "America's gun culture," one of the most peaceable and rational demographic subsets on the planet. It's about an imaginary misfit--and one dreamed up in the prejudiced, neurotic fantasies of a snotty Danish elitist, at that.

Here's something else I can't help notice--the Danes publish some Muhammad cartoons and the whole Islamic world goes apeshit. They release a film calculated to provoke and enrage gun owners, and we not only have to inform each other it exists via minor blogs--but I don't see us rioting and torching, issuing death warrants and killing people.

Most of us just won't go see the movie--not that it looks like it has mass appeal, anyway. If we react at all, it will be to remark on the foolishness of the filmmakers.

Is that your best "shot" guys?

Yawn.

I do have a few more questions for our artsy, disdainful detractors, though. How long did it take the Nazis to conquer and occupy Denmark? Why didn't the same thing happen to Switzerland? What effect do you think the absence or presence of a "gun culture" had on the different outcomes?
