Thompson Speaks Against Gun Control

"I do not think that abrogating Second Amendment rights is a good idea," the Republican said at the Versailles restaurant in Little Havana.

That's great, Fred, and I agree. As a follow-up, I'd like to see you answer this question.

And I'd like to see gun owners take a moment to help get the question put to all the candidates.

Why "Authorized Journalists" are Better than Bloggers--A Continuing Saga

A former ABC News consultant fired last year because he couldn't authenticate academic credentials is at the center of a new dispute over apparently faked interviews with Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Bill Gates and others.
Good golly. And ABC News is generally so reliable.

Clayton Cramer to Appear at Red's

As I reported earlier we will be premiering David T. Hardy's Documentary In Search of the Second Amendment in Twin Falls. Hardy has spent 4 years working on this documentary and it is a must see.

On October 3rd, there will be a presentation before the film by historian Clayton Cramer, who is the author of the book Armed America and also appears in the film.

I hope Ryan has notified the local press to come down and cover this. If the attendance is not overflow/SRO, I'd sure like to know why not.

Is the gun store you patronize a leader in protecting the rights of the communities they serve, or merely a merchant? If the latter, have you and your shooting friends taken the time to approach and educate them on the real need for gun shops to supply freedom information as well as freedom tools?

Nothing will change unless we take it upon ourselves to change things. I hope that's not news to anybody.

This Day in History: September 15

In future, whenever the men are formed for action, the Serjeants are to be placed in the ranks, on the flanks of subdivisions, that the benefit of their fire may not be lost. The Brigadiers and Officers commanding regiments are also to post some good officers in the rear, to keep the men in order; and if in time of action, any man, who is not wounded, whether he has arms or not, turns his back upon the enemy, and attempts to run away, or to retreat before orders are given for it, those officers are instantly to put him to death. The man does not deserve to live, who basely flies, breaks his solemn engagements, and betrays his country.

And Then There's Option B

Surrounding states must strengthen their gun laws to match New Jersey's if violent crime in the Garden State is going to be reduced, a group of county prosecutors said Thursday.
Yeah, either that or you guys can go to hell.

Great "objective reporting" there, "Staff Writer" Carolyn Salazar. You quote the prosecutors, skim convenient data from a BATFU slide show (but omit the inconvenient factoid that "average time-to-crime" in New Jersey is 11.52 years), work in a sound bite from a local citizen disarmament zealot, and even point to Mayor Bloomberg's illegal strong arm tactics as the way to achieve an agenda. Your readers would never know there are competing arguments, so you've served the cause well.

You ought to make "Senior Authorized Journalist" in no time.

Mixed Messages

Former Run-DMC star Darryl McDaniels has created an award show to challenge negative perceptions of hip-hop...

McDaniels said the inclusion of "gangster rapper" Snoop Dogg on the bill did not detract from the awards' message....

"It's OK to make a record about a gun, but if you make a record about a gun, you gotta make a record about not using a gun," he said.

Good grief.

Wayne Fincher Update: Sept. 14

Paul W. Davis has updated the "Raid page" with Wayne Fincher's IFP Status and Hearing Transcript.

We talked about this yesterday, including a faster way to send in donations. Per Mr. Davis:
I will send the links and account deposit information for the defense fund as soon as I have everything ready... I am going on a local radio talk show tomorrow morning (7:00 AM) to discuss Wayne's case.

We're the Only Ones Exhibiting Enough

A military-style machine gun accidentally discharged at a gun club exhibition, killing an off-duty police officer who was working with the weapon, state police said Thursday.
Tragic, but again we see the "gun...discharged...killing." Not a word about an inanimate object being negligently operated...

We're the Only Ones Self-Inflicting Enough

A Northside Independent School District police officer shot himself and then lied to San Antonio police about how he suffered the gunshot wounds, police officials said.
And that's why "we believe in absolutely gun-free, zero-tolerance, totally safe schools. That means no guns in America's schools, period ... with the rare exception of law enforcement officers or trained security personnel."

Right, Wayne?

That'll Stop "Knife Crimes," Eh?

Ontario Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty said Wednesday that he does not want to see the provinces' schools resort to installing metal detectors and having uniformed security officers patrol the halls in the wake of Tuesday's fatal stabbing at a Toronto high school...

Instead, he said, Ontario needs to distinguish itself from the United States by imposing an outright ban on hand guns.

Cause...effect...cause...effect...

Nah. But that's OK, none of the "authorized journalists" caught it. One can only wonder how many of McGuinty's constituents did.

And then we have the "opposition," blaming the problem on government not having enough money to redistribute.

I wonder at what point people will realize they're being played for suckers by sleight-of-mind charlatans and parasites...

"WAVE 3's Elizabeth Donatelli Investigates."

There's been talk and action about dry districts where alcohol isn't allowed, but now there is a movement for gun-dry districts. Community activists are working to get legislative support that would put restrictions on guns and selling them in high-crime areas of metro Louisville.

J.T. McAdams responds by email to an "authorized journalist" shilling for gun control under the guise of objective reporting:

This is what passes for investigative journalism these days? How hard could it have been to do just a little bit of research before you parrot such trash?

For instance:

You state "Since August 31st of this year, there have been 48 homicides in Jefferson County. In 33 of those cases, the murder weapon was a gun."

1. How many of those homicides were gang related?
2. How many of those guns were legally purchased?
3. How many of those guns were purchased in the proposed "gun dry"districts?
4. What evidence exists that shows restrictions on gun sales lowers crime?
5. MORE IMPORTANTLY, what evidence exists that shows more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens actually REDUCES crime? (Don't look now, but it's overwhelming and really easy to find if you want to.)
6. How many homicides(or any other crimes) have been prevented by law abiding citizens who were carrying firearms? (Please see #5 above)

You reference the D.C. ban that was overturned. Do you even have a clue as to what the crime rate in D.C. has been since the "de facto" ban went into effect? This information might help you in answering questions #4 & #5 above.

You state "Community groups in Chicago are pushing similar legislation." Chicago has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country and yet firearms have been outlawed for the law abiding in that city for years and years. This could also help with 4 & 5 above.

Another quote from you - "Local activists are also considering ways to restrict gun sales in certain high-crime areas such as 12th and Broadway, 18th and Broadway, and areas of Shelbyville instead of an all-out ban."

Who does Louis Coleman think he is? A lawmaker? Who do you think he is? Let me help you. He is Louisville's Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton wanna be. He likes to shake people down for a living if they don't go along with his little schemes. He's a man desperate for relevance. And so called investigations like yours do nothing but give him credence.

By the way, have you ever heard of "preemption" when it comes to laws pertaining to firearms? No? Why doesn't that surprise me? But I'm real tired of doing your work for you so go look it up.

"WAVE 3's Elizabeth Donatelli investigates." Investigates? You didn't investigate anything. You simply gave airtime and press to shameful, lying,race-baiting thugs disguised as "community activists".

Thank you for contributing to the problem.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED NOW!

CA MICROSTAMPING BILL ON ARNOLD'S DESK

From CALGUNS:

CALL Gov's Sac number (916-445-2841)

Press 1 - for English
Press 2 - for Voice your opinion on Assembly Bills
Press 1 - for Micro Stamping Bill (AB1471)
Press 2 to OPPOSE the gun control bill.

Via RuffRidr, who says:
You don't have to speak to anyone. This takes 20 seconds. That's it! I repeat, you do not need to speak to anyone,
and Les K, who also reminds us:
And if you are out of state, remember, there are other states looking to impose similar state (and federal) legislation, so feel free to call in and post your opinions too.
UPDATE: I note some have said it took several attempts to get through. That shows people are calling, so we should make sure most of the calls are from us. I had luck of the draw and got right through--mission accomplished in that 20 seconds RuffRidr was telling us about.

Somos Los Unicos Exploiting the "Gun Show Loophole" Enough

Three high-ranking Mexican police officers were arrested on allegations of buying weapons and ammunition at a gun show in Phoenix in violation of a law barring noncitizens from purchasing firearms, a U.S. official said Wednesday...

It appeared the officers were buying the handguns for their personal use...

In other news, high-ranking Mexican police officers complain about US guns illegally coming in to Mexico.

The solution, of course, is to impose further controls on you and me.

You can't make this stuff up.

Ignorance and Fear

They're scary. That's the crux of the gun debate spurred by the AR platform.

The AR platform looks like a machine gun.
That's what the antis are counting on.

That's why Kent Peacock, president of Firearm Safety Training Inc., invited outdoor media to a tactical rifle open house at the Illinois State Rifle Association range Aug. 28. I was the only one who took the opportunity to be enlightened.
And that is why the next incompetent and hysterical "authorized journalist" who opens his snotty, judgmental yap about "assault weapons"--without having taken the initiative to educate himself--ought to have his ignorant, lazy butt soundly group-kicked and ridiculed with a flood of derisive emails.

Fincher Denied IFP Status

From Paul W. Davis:

I hate to be abrupt and blunt, but I have no choice as time is of the essence and the issue is extremely serious...Wayne is denied IFP consideration for the government to pay for the transcript...The is how we are dealt with by the courts. We now have to come up with $1,100.00 immediately, and the balance when the transcript is done by this coming Tuesday...If we do not produce a transcript for Quentin and Stewart to use, then this case is OVER! There will be no reconsideration, no new trial, no anything further concerning Wayne's attempt to get the courts and government to recognize our individual right to keep and bear all arms necessary for our defense. I expect an answer by tomorrow as I have to provide an answer to the Court Reporter tomorrow.
Since this came in last night, that would be today. I have to wonder how many WarOnGuns regulars (besides me) have put a few dollars in the collection plate?

Why Isn't Your Gun Store Like Red's?

More good stuff from Red's:

Ryan Does a Commerical

Questioning BATFU Trace Data

Promises of Restoring Rights Meet the Real World

Educating Republicans

Red's Trying to Put More Guns "On the Street"!!!

If every gun store owner stood up and pushed back like this, and acted as a hub for educating customers about their rights and government abuses, we would really have a force for change. Logically, a gun store should be the focal point in a community not just as a source of arms, but as an authority in all matters gun-related, including being a disseminator of information about pending legislation, and a leader in education and activism for promoting the right to keep and bear arms.

That most fear speaking out lest they anger "Master" will not save them--as we've seen, dirty work is best done in the dark. If the gun store you patronize isn't a leader in this regard, ask them why not. And ask yourself why you don't do business with one that is.

We tend as human beings to absorb the attitudes of those around us. If we associate with the timid, the quiet, the cowed, the afraid-to-rock-the-boat, guess what mindset we will adopt?

Why would any man want to align himself with any but the bold?

Ryan, thanks for giving me an example of leadership under fire.

[More about Red's Trading Post from WarOnGuns]

This Day in History: September 13

The ungrateful despotism and inordinate lust of domination, which marked the unnatural designs of the British king and his venal parliament, to enslave [tile? the?] people of America, reduced you to the necessity of either asserting your rights by arms, or ingloriously passing under the yoke. You nobly preferred war.

We all got that, right?

From Congress to their constituents?

"Read twice and unanimously agreed to"?

And who did Congress assume without question could "assert... [their] rights by arms"?

Their "Friends and Fellow-Citizens!"

Is the "debate" over yet? Because if it's not, the only possible explanation would be a deliberate campaign of lies to con the weak and foolish.

If Olson is "Frontrunner," What Place Will Gun Owners Take?

Translation: The "Vote Freeedom First" president has a grand opportunity to replace a gungrabber.

So is "frontrunner" Ted Olson the 2A pitbull some would have us believe?

He argued against the Supreme Court hearing the Emerson case. OK, I can hear the apologists now: since the 5th Circuit had already ruled in favor of an individual interpretation, why risk it?

Olson also asked the Supreme Court not to intervene in the Haney case. More smart politics, right? We'd never win a machine gun case?

Olson argued against "restoring" a gun owner's rights in the Bean case--a man convicted in Mexico of something that's not a crime in the US--having a small amount of ammunition in his vehicle. As I noted on more than one occasion, it would be equivalent to one of former Olson boss John Ashcroft's fellow Pentecostals being convicted of having an unauthorized Bible in China, being classified a "felon" as a result, and losing their gun rights here for it.

Being lead counsel for gun manufacturers sued by DC may count for something, but lawyers represent clients all the time--that proves nothing in terms of convictions.

And being a key supporter of a notorious gungrabber doesn't help establish confidence that we're dealing with a man who puts fidelity to Constitutional principles first.

Is it really so damn hard to find someone who does?
