I May Have Figured Out...
Gillibrand Apologists Cling to Hope
The newest hope they're clinging to:
She keeps two rifles under her bed.
"If I want to protect my family, if I want to have a weapon in the home, that should be my right."Well, then, no need for concern. We can all go back to sleep now. I mean, if she owns guns, she must be one of us. Right Lon Horiuchi and Ray Schoenke?
But wait--there's a new development:
A spokesman says the rifles are not loaded...So you're going to protect your family by using them as clubs...?
Ah... situation resolved:
Gillibrand removes guns from under bedIf she won't defend her own right to keep and bear arms, what type of wishful thinking makes anybody think she'll defend theirs?
Especially after this
and this
and this (second feature at link)
and this...?
As usual, I probably just don't know what I'm talking about, right, Jacob?
UPDATE: Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better. You might even convince yourself her Tiahrt reversal is smart politics.
That makes one a "realist"? Cool, we can all relax now. Besides, Jacob has met her in person.
I like that "perfect is the enemy of the good" platitude almost as much as "Politics is the art of the possible," as if people who discourage envelope pushing know where the boundaries of possibility lie.
Oh, and Dave's not here.
Cool Under Fire
Soldiers who perform best under extreme stress have higher levels of chemicals that dampen the fear response, a finding that could lead to new drugs or training strategies to help others cope better, a U.S. researcher said. [More]Cool--we can give them to angst-filled adolescents who have trouble socializing and focusing on their school work!
What could go wrong?

UPDATE:
A comment made me remember--everybody knows the origin of this term, right?
We're Surprised He's Surrounded by Fraud?

But the Ron Paul Dollars--the ones that are actually worth something--are verboten. And the "Authorized Journalists" do their level best to plant the belief in the minds of the pliable that real gold, silver and copper = fake.

North to the Future
Nearly 700 people filled the auditorium at a local church tonight as the '2nd Amendment Taskforce' met for the second time in Fairbanks. Just a week before 140 people attended the meeting that took place at Denny's, where only 20 people were expected.Michael Dukes brings us some encouraging news about Alaskans standing up for gun rights.
I would say that something has finally gotten Gun Owners attention in the Interior of Alaska. [More]
Among other developments, a bill modeled after Montana's to provide for "Alaskan gun and ammo manufactures the ability to sell products to instate customers without interference from the Feds."
Michael will have more on this later, and I'll let you know when he does.
How to Beat Your Wife

"Okay, he's tried admonishing, he's tried banishment – but nothing. Her emotions are numb, and she says: Good riddance. So what is the next measure? "...and beat them." Beating. [More]And the good thing is, you can still "do her."
You better put some ice on that...
We talked yesterday about the woman with the protective order losing her head over her estranged husband, who was trying so hard to create a positive light. I think it would be funny to see the idiot cleric who advocates this barbaric crap try his advice out on, say...this lady...who would positively put his lights out.
I think the resultant beating would be good enough for Pay-per-View. The thumps and howls would be comedy gold.

2009 NRA Director Candidate Questionnaire

No true reform will come to the NRA until voting members can rate director candidates based on unequivocal platforms of support for “shall not be infringed.” Unfortunately, no such demand has been made by the membership, so expect more status quo, backroom deals, political compromises and undeserved politician ratings. [More]Once more I go through the motions. Today's Gun Rights Examiner column presents the latest incarnation of my NRA director candidate questionnaire.
Will this provoke controversy, or will it be ignored?
That's up to you, the readers, isn't it? Will anyone join me in asking some questions, or even making them known?

Showdown Under the Big Sky
I just posted a second Gun Rights Examiner column today to feature a development in Montana that should be of interest to us all. [More]Please help spread the link around...

A Somewhat Regulated Militia is Better than None
The town's three policemen fled and there was no response from the military and U.N. peacekeepers to the increasingly panicked pleas for help. That's when residents realized they were on their own.So much for counting on either "Only Ones" or globalist gungrabbers.
...So Akoyo called a town meeting and told everyone to bring whatever weapons they had: pre-World War II rifles, homemade shotguns, lances, swords, machetes, hunting knives, bows with sheaths of poisoned arrows.
...Since then, the residents of Bangadi have successfully driven off two attacks by the Ugandan rebels, who have killed at least 900 people in this remote northeastern corner of Congo over the past seven weeks. [More]
I'd like to see Paul Helmke, Rebecca Peters, et al issue a statement condemning these people.
I dare them to.

We're the Only Ones Hitting on the Ladies Enough
Last year’s police officer of the year for Orange County was arrested Friday night, accused of hitting a female acquaintance... [More]There's a particularly poor taste joke that's been around for many years:
Q: What do battered women have in common?
A: (While shaking head and with an disgusted look) They just don't listen.
I bring it up because that attitude seems to apply to so many cases of "Only One" violence resulting in their beating a detainee, yet the same intense social stigma is rarely attached.
I'm no sociologist, but it sure looks like our culture has a dysfunctional relationship with and dependency on its abusers...

An Order of Protection
Authorities say Aasiya Hassan recently had filed for divorce from her husband. So she was beheaded.
"She had an order of protection that had him out of the home as of Friday the 6th [of February]," Benz said. [More]
Boy, that order worked about as well as hubby's "more positive light," didn't it...?
Dismissing an Unfounded Fear
The New York Times is reporting that, due to our military being stretched to its limits in Afghanistan and Iraq, the US Military will start recruiting immigrant workers who have temporary visas the opportunity to become citizens, in as little as 6 months. [More]
Good. Then we can dismiss the ridiculous notion that our standing army would ever take up arms against their relatives, neighbors and friends...
We're the Only Ones Keeping You Safe Enough
"It is with great hope that we can put a gun lock on every gun to keep kids and the families safe."[More]Every gun. Except for your super-special "Only One" gun, right, Vernotis?
[Via The Bitter Clinger]
We're the Only Ones Bursting Enough
A lawsuit filed in Circuit Court that seeks $200,000 says two Chattanooga Police officers burst into the wrong house with guns drawn. What do you think would have happened had Mr. Brady grabbed a gun and repelled the errant "Only Ones," thinking they might be home invaders?
...It says the couple was held at gunpoint while the home was searched, placing them, their children, their spouses, nephews, nieces and grandchildren "in mortal fear."
The suit says, the officers left "after realizing they had made a mistake." [More]
Oh, right...

Don't Think of Us as "Anti-Gun"
I've said this before. One way to discourage this practice of newspapers publishing CCW holder names is to target their advertisers. Let them know you're going to pick one of them to drag into the controversy. Set up a protest in front of a car dealership, and then promise another advertiser they're targeted for next week. The message being "XYZ Supports Anti-Gun Subversion."
You'll see change.
That is, you would if gun owners actually gave a damn about getting involved. Hell, if they did, we wouldn't have any gun control laws.
The other option, of course, is to say the hell with permits. Just so you realize the same gun owners who won't join you in a boycott or any constructive peaceable activity will then condemn you for making us all look bad if you get caught, and bloviate on the gun boards about your deserving what you get...

Still More Election Coverage...

No, not for political offices. It's nearing that time of year when eligible members (Life and above, or members for five consecutive years) get to elect candidates for the NRA Board of Directors. You knew there would be.
But there's a problem. [More]
