You Get What You Pay For

Free NRA membership. [More]

The Bylaws require dues to be set by the Board. This is another one of those times when having no oversight of board directors, no indication of what they believe or how they vote or even how to contact them, works against NRA members like me who think this is a bad idea.

I don't see where the antis will spin this any other way than a desperation move. And if I'd just shelled out membership dues, I'd be looking for a refund.

I'm sure there will be no shortage of members who will vehemently disagree with me, and point out how this will bear fruit when these trial members get involved and re-up.

Fine. But that still doesn't negate the observation that directors pretty much operate independently of any cognizance of those who elect them. And that we have no practical way to rate them when they're up for election.

I even saw it stated that doing so, particularly using Second Amendment fidelity as a guide, would not be..."pragmatic" wasn't the word, but that was the gist of it.

Oh, and another thing--why aren't the damn bylaws online? What purpose is served by not posting them? We can judge politicians by their adherence to the Constitution. It would be nice to judge directors by their adherence to the bylaws, particularly Article II, Section 1, and if you don't know what that says, you make my point.

We're the Only Ones Whining About Our Cut Enough

Sheriff's officials said they believe commissioners need to reconsider the cuts to the sheriff’s office and not condone vigilantes...

Sheldon said he's just warning criminals that people in Mason County have guns and know how to use them.

"You might expect a lead enema. I'm telling you, people in Mason County are fed up with crime. They know how to protect themselves," Sheldon said. [More]
So naturally, "Only Ones" with a vested economic interest publicly portray that as "vigilantism."

We're the Only Ones Dealing Enough

Well, he stopped them from getting onto airplanes, didn't he?

There's No Fool...

[F]ashionable as it is to always bash ATF, regardless of what they do, it should not be forgotten that ATF was instrumental in helping the unborn MG industry through its birthing pangs after GCA '68....Sorry to say, I am not a fan of Len Savage, especially with his current fight with ATF...[More]
I guess Len should just roll over and allow his property to be stolen and livelihood ruined and stop testifying on behalf of others so that your "helpful" BATFU buddies will leave you and yours alone...for now?

Everybody just stop fighting for your rights NOW and stop rocking the boat, right, "Old Timer"?

Y'know, there's a lot of truth in some old sayings...

A Gathering of Vultures

Mayors to explore roots of mass violence [More]
You might start with socialist regimes headed by criminal mayors...

Oh, and looky here:
"As a country, we seem to be more interested in the origin of tainted pistachios, peanuts and ice cream than the people who are being killed in our cities," says Tom Cochran, executive director of the mayors' group."
Not even hiding the fact that you're directly ripping off Brady Campaign "People Dead-Send Money" talking points, are you, Tom?

And through the implied solution, you reveal the true agenda: "Recall" guns.

Try it.

Why are So Many 'Conservatives' Following Michael Savage?

I have never understood the Michael Savage phenomenon. He's loud, he's abrasive, and he's hardly the "conservative" so many apparently think he is. I guess tapping into the border issue has convinced some that he is a kindred spirit. For anyone who place the Constitution first, he is not.

Case in point, today's amazingly ignorant screed, "Why are the police outgunned?":

"So I put the question to the Savage Nation. Is it time to ban assault rifles? What are they really needed for?" [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column shows the true nature of an "obnoxious carnival barker" who essentially claims--if you read what he's saying--that the Second Amendment is useless.

This one is important to share, because corporate media foists him on a public that doesn't know any better and represents him as a leading conservative voice. Don't let him--or them--get away with it. Tell a friend?

Also meet an honorable Savage, see a reminder about a TV show you probably ought to watch, find out about a rally in Oregon, and, of course, get the very latest commentary from my fellow GREs.

This Day in History: April 10

Application has been made to me, by the State of Massachusetts for part of the Blankets lately arrived at Portsmouth from France. As I did not know, how you might have disposed of them, I thought my interfering in the matter might occasion some confusion, and therefore desired them to apply to your Agents in Boston, to whom I beg you will give orders to deliver them such a proportion as you think them intitled to. Give Me Your Huddled Masses, Yearning to Vote Democrat

"[C]omprehensive immigration legislation, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year in office." [More]
I see a lot of comments on "conservative" Internet sites complaining bitterly about this.

Sorry, but what did we expect Obama to do with the windfall handed him? That's like blaming a snake for biting.

Thank John McCain, George Bush, the US Chamber of Commerce, and the neo-con "leaders" of the Stupid Party for handing the socialists a democrat majority on a silver platter.

The GOP had eight years in the White House and a majority in both house of Congress to fix this and they betrayed every member of their core constituency by not doing so--and by pushing their own brand of amnesty. As if that would have made the socialists stop hating them.

This is the result of We the People settling for what is presented as "pragmatism" instead of insisting on principle. If we had made a practice of routinely throwing RINOs under the bus instead of supporting them because "otherwise a democrat would win," the lesson would have been learned after a couple sacrifices--and even (especially) those with malleable "principles" would toe the line out of sheer survival instinct.

As pal Steiger observes, "We've been conned. Bare-ass naked in the town square conned."

We're the Only Ones Putting that Old Spark Back into Our Marriage Enough

The chief of a small Central Texas town's police department has been fired and jailed for allegedly using a Taser gun on his wife. [More]
And it's not the first time:
Court records show in December of 2003, while Ivy was not employed by a police department, he was charged with domestic violence.
So naturally, "the city never did a background check." They just set him loose on the community because after all, who rules whom?

Violent "Only Ones." I only wish I could say that's shocking.

ABC Plans Hit Piece on Guns

When it comes to protecting yourself, you may think "if I only had a gun." But if you had a gun, could you protect yourself in a crisis? How easy is it to obtain a gun? And what explains the nearly irresistible attraction of young people to firearms? Diane Sawyer investigates, with reporting by David Muir, on "If I Only Had a Gun," airing on "20/20," Friday, April 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. The hour also features hidden camera experiments and expert analysis. [More]

Resolution of Obama Birth Controversy at Hand?

A friend sent me a link to a story about an Oklahoma City police officer pulling a motorist over for having an "Abort Obama Not the Unborn" sign on his car. The sign was confiscated and the Secret Service investigated. [More]

Many of you are aware that there is a vocal effort being waged challenging Obama's "natural born citizen" credentials. While supporters predictably dismiss this as sour grapes by right wing kooks, the issue is divisive enough that we as Americans deserve to see it unequivocally resolved without partisan rhetoric from either side.

The thought strikes--while the sign was eventually returned, motorist Chip Harrison's First Amendment right was temporarily abridged. He ought to have legal recourse for that.

Since the alleged violation he committed involved a threat against the president, wouldn't determining if the person he was accused of threatening actually was the president be admissible?

Perhaps if Harrison does not have standing, anyone currently charged with making a threat against the president ought to have their attorney explore this further...

What Does Obama's Weather Control Plan Have to Do with Gun Rights?

Regular Gun Rights Examiner readers will recall we discussed U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly's ruling on carrying guns in national parks. Her bottom line was, it could not be allowed without an environmental impact study.

Think how much less of an impact the very rare occurrences of a peaceable armed citizen firing a gun in self-defense would have on the environment than, say, "shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun’s rays." Or, for that matter, "reducing greenhouse gases." [More]
Perhaps, by capitalizing on the CUM ULLA SELLA IN PUGNO TABERNA philosophy, we can set things up so that leftists collide...

Today's Gun Rights Examiner column explores the megalomaniacal control freakishness that is Obama and the Congress.
