Truth in Sentencing

A man caught having sex with a horse in a South Carolina stable has been sentenced to three years in prison. [More]
I can't figure out why the disparity.

Do you think it's because it was a horse and not calves that they went...uh...harder on him?

Or might it have been something else?

The Source?

"Just because a soldier lives near Fort Campbell, doesn't mean it came from that facility," Cavanaugh said. [More]
True enough, "Waco Jim," but it does add another insight...

Interesting stuff going on at Fort Campbell these days...

This Day in History: November 5

But today, propelled by items of popular culture like the hit film ‘V’ for Vendetta, Britons have a take on Guy Fawkes that is much at odds with the historical one. Once Fawkes was a symbol of the traitor within. The people were called to be on guard against his like. No longer. Today Guy Fawkes is increasingly viewed as the heroic figure prepared to stand against an unjust and oppressive state, as a martyr and a victim of torture. [More]

Taken to Task

Anthony P. Mauro, Sr., the head of the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance, thinks I have a "vivid imagination and a pricey laptop," and that, apparently, has more bearing on my calling out their endorsement of Chris Christie than, say, his sending out a campaign mailer lying about "assault weapons" and calling for them to be banned.

I've invited him to respond and promised him a column if he does.

See his initial objections in comments here.

Is GunPal the Gun Owner's Pal?

Apparently it's like PayPal, only not anal retentive when it comes to guns. [More]

Anyone know anything about them or their founder's track record on gun rights? It sounds good, but personal references mean a lot more to me than press releases.

Here's their site.

We're the Only Ones DAREing Enough

A hearing scheduled for Tuesday in the case of a Pitt County deputy accused of providing alcohol to a person younger than 21 was continued...

Amanda R. Tyndall
, a Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education officer with the sheriff's office, was arrested Sept. 24 and charged by the State Bureau of Investigation with the offense. [More]

Did Gun Control Provide Unintended Consequence?

An attorney prosecuting the 26-year-old man accused of killing East Palo Alto police Officer Richard May scored a significant victory Tuesday when a judge granted his request to present evidence that suggests a motive for the crime...

The document informs parolees that under a federal "Trigger Lock" law they could serve 15 years to life in prison if caught with a firearm. [More]
And the thing is, that law didn't even apply to him.

Perhaps it's time for the term "desperation factor" to enter the debate on future proposals...

A Civil Debate

Advocates of the First and Second Amendments sat down together Tuesday to debate whether the state's list of 257,000 handgun-carry permit holders should be kept public -- but found little common ground beyond agreeing that the ongoing debate should be civil. [More]
See, that's the thing--as long as it remains civil, there's no real incentive to stop, is there? I don't think I'd be inclined toward civility if some snotty anti-gun punk posted my name under the guise of crusading journalism. The damn watchdogs are supposed to be watching the government.

But then, I don't have a dog in this fight.

Besides, I've already proposed a way gun owners who do can fight back.

Again and again and again...

Apparently, it's not civil enough.

We're the Only Ones Falling Off the Wagon Enough

The NYPD detective charged with drunkenly mowing down a Bronx woman is an alcoholic once ordered into rehab after a boozed-up argument, the Daily News has learned. [More]

What Do Yesterday's Elections Mean for Gun Owners?

This is what you'll see coming at us ad nauseum: democrats advising the GOP they need more, not fewer Dede Scozzafavas. Does anyone think they advise this because they want to help coach the opposition into fielding a better game? [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner looks at the same old political game and how it limits where the pieces can be moved.

The Bloody affair in St Georges Fields & the Attacks on the Rights of Election first called forth my Public Spirit , & from that era I thought it my Duty as a Christian & an honest man to quit all thoughts of ever going into full Pay (tho I had been an Officer in the English Service from the year 1740) & to enlist in the Service of the People at large as a Defender of their Civil & Religious Liberties. We're the Only Ones Discounted Enough

About half of Thailand's national lawmakers are taking advantage of a new government plan allowing them to purchase guns at a discount and receive a license to carry them anywhere, an official said Monday. [More]
I don't suppose an "Onry Ones" crack would be considered PC...?

And if you're not in the government's employ, what then?

We're the Only Ones Confined Enough

A senior enlisted Marine at Camp Pendleton was sentenced today to a reduction in rank and 60 days confinement after a court martial found him guilty of removing classified documents from files and possessing an unauthorized machine gun. [More]
May I ask why the sentences for Wayne Fincher and David Olofson were so much more severe?

And will anyone from LASD be prosecuted for receiving stolen classified documents?
