GRE Round Up for Mar. 13

There's some good stuff being turned out. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Daniel White/Cleveland:
Toledo robber shot by store owner

Nicholas Arnold/Parkersburg:
Meet the candidates and policymakers coming this week

Go. Read. And please share the links.

You're doing that, right?

We're the Only Ones...

...Going on an Outing Enough:
The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a complaint against the Rapid City Police Department, saying two officers were responsible for getting a lesbian Air Force sergeant tossed out of the military.
...For the Record Enough:
Former Lewiston police chief Dave Kleinschmidt, who was fired Wednesday night by the City Council, had a criminal record, and city officials say he lied about his previous employment.
...Giving Chase Enough:
State's Attorney Kevin Lyons may pursue additional charges against a part-time Peoria Park District officer who has pleaded guilty to fleeing the scene of an accident while driving a squad car.
...Filling Up Enough:
A former South Bend police officer pleaded guilty Thursday in the attempted robbery of a gas station manager.
..."A Christmas Story" Enough:
It was called a miracle this past Christmas Eve when Joshua Smith said he survived being shot by two men during a traffic stop. He said his badge saved him.

News Channel 3 has learned not everyone believes that story now.
...Getting into the Zone...The Auto Zone Enough:
A former Riverside police officer was sentenced to 15 years in prison today for a series of armed robberies of auto parts stores in Riverside and Moreno Valley.
...Banking On It Enough:
Ex-CPD officer Tindall convicted of bank robbery
...Elective Enough:
The former Dodge County sheriff and a supporter pleaded guilty Thursday in a vote-buying scandal.
...The Spitting Image Enough:
East Orange police officer charged with assaulting, spitting on woman at bus stop
...Making a Federal Case Out of It:
A spokeswoman tells WITN News that during his time as sheriff, Thomas was involved with the theft of federal funds. A former deputy, Christopher Cozart, was also named in a separate Bill of Information. The feds say Cozart was a detective in the county's drug unit.
...Getting Our Loving on the Run Enough:
A Saratoga County sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty on Thursday of sexually abusing four women in three different towns while he was on duty and in uniform.
Sorry--I need to mobilize and get on the road. Here are three more links from this batch I just don't have time to format and title:

And now, as I mentioned in today's GRE, I'm off to the "No Sheriff Left Behind" event, and I still need to post today's GRE Round Up.

After all, I wouldn't want the Bradys to think I'm denigrating law enforcement.

We're the Only Ones Less Patient Enough

In interviews with The Associated Press and in dozens of anecdotes compiled in a survey by the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance, officers described feeling compelled to use tactics they employed in war zones after they returned to work in the U.S. and feeling less patient toward the public they serve. [More]
I suggest you either adjust or find another line of work. You're not the "Only Ones" feeling less patient these days...and some of us are not inclined to flee "war zones" as refugees when we're really talking about our homes and our communities that you're being paid to protect.

As I mentioned in my GRE column today, I'm off to the "No Sheriff Left Behind" event in Akron in a bit, so I won't have time to follow up on this today. For those of you who do have time, please take a few moments to leave a comment under this "story" and not let this outrageous lie be left unchallenged.

You might want to consider sending JPFO a bit of encouragement, too, so they know their courage and leadership is appreciated. Perhaps even something meaningful.

Penn Pal Dictator Chavez Proves 'Gun Control' Fails at Stopping Crime

The former, of course, is controlled in Venezuela by the tinpot tyrant, who closes down broadcast stations that criticize his heavy-handed rule, and expels foreign journalists who do the same. (Penn recently gave us a microcosm glimpse of such policies in action, when he smacked down a photographer and expelled a journalist for asking him a question he didn't like.)

And guns, of course, are also tightly controlled. It's what dictators do... [More]

This Day in History: March 13

You will perceive, by the inclosed Copy of a Resolve of Congress, that I am impowered to employ a body of four hundred Indians, if they can be procured upon proper terms. Divesting them of the Savage customs exercised in their Wars against each other, I think they may be made of excellent use, as scouts and light troops, mixed with our own Parties. [More]

Far Less Aggressive

grouse man says:
You guys are really some of the most uneducated or uninformed on firearms laws I have seen. BATF is far less aggressive than 20 years ago and firearms laws have been weakened significantly over the past 20 years, especially regarding dealers. If you want no gun laws call your congressman. I am sure they will help you out. With Obama in there you should be thankful things aren't much worse. [More]

I added my two cents. Feel free to add yours.

We're the Only Ones Able to Continue Enough

Chatham cop accused of forgetting loaded gun on sidewalk while drunk and off duty [More]
Now hold on just a damn second here--I thought it was well-settled that New Jersey "Only Ones" were more trustworthy than the rest of us when it comes to bearing arms. That must be why no charges were filed and the incident wasn't publicly reported.

And thank goodness for this silver lining:
There is no indication he is not able to continue on the job.
You go, Sgt. Roy George!

It's a confidential personnel matter, you see. It goes back to that "Only Ones" thingie again, for those of you who just don't get why you'd be in the slammer right now with all kinds of scary throwbacks, and looking to deplete whatever worldly wealth you've accumulated trying to minimize the punishment.

I don't know who the caller is who turned it in is, but I hope they stomp him for unauthorized--and illegal--handling and possession of a concealed handgun to the full extent of the law.

Anybody dumb enough not to keep it deserves whatever he gets.

Here are their latest offerings:

Howard Nemerov/Austin:
Twilight’s Kristen Stewart flirting with death? (This one is actually quite funny, and I'll let you in on the inside joke: Some of us GREs have been digging at Examiner management in our group correspondences for being so anal about localized content and focusing so heavily on celebrity fluff--so you can help us--and Howard--prove a point by making this one popular.)

Ron Bokleman/Boston:
