GRE Round Up for Apr. 7

There's some good stuff being turned out. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Dave Workman/Seattle:
Snohomish County councilman misrepresents law to push anti-gun agenda
Good shooting of one bad man, good arrest of another

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:

Go. Read. And please share these links.

You're doing that, right?

Volunteers of America

What people can do to volunteer at this point is to sign up at the Muster 4-19 networking site I've created for the event and RSVP for the "leaders' recon/ dry run taking place on the 18th at Ft. Hunt, the day prior to the Big Day.

Can you please pass this as well as the link to anyone who can help out:

http://muster4-19.ning.com/events [More]
This is for the Restore the Constitution Rally.

Not to be confused with the Second Amendment March.

I'll be at both.

Because my friends asked me to, and I will not let them stand alone.

Some People Simply Shouldn't Have Guns

I've said it before, some people simply shouldn't have guns. But aside from either putting them under custodial care or removing them from society altogether, I just don't see what you can do about it that won't mess with those of us who have no problem being free and responsible human beings.

The truth is, some people shouldn't have telephones.

Some people shouldn't have chocolate bunnies.

Just how low of a bar setting are we willing to tolerate?

We're the Only Ones Knocking Off Enough

"They have to knock, state a purpose, say they have a warrant and give time for the person to surrender"...[More]
Really?

Since when?

We're the Only Ones Choking You Up Enough

Derek Cherven, 28, a trooper assigned to the Bristol district attorney’s office, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment yesterday morning in Wrentham District Court on charges of assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, after he allegedly tried to strangle his girlfriend, authorities said. [More]
Well, it looks like they're treating him like they would us: identifying him, relieving him of duty, RO, etc...

So why present this as an "Only Ones" story?

Just to point out that this is one of The Entrusted who allegedly committed an act of violence, as opposed to threatening to commit one. But the anti-gunners continue to ignore such stories and insist that We the People are the "only ones" can't be trusted to keep and bear arms.

Time For Another Common Sense Gun Control Law

No-Fly List Includes the Dead [More]
And don't we have some politicians who think such lists are reliable enough to deny gun purchases?

Why yes, we do.

Thing is, there already are laws in many locales that interfere with our ability to "legally" transfer arms to our heirs--either because of permitting "requirements" or because of banned grandfathered weapons.

We all know what we've got to do in those situations, don't we?

The only danger is, some future historian might try to make the case that because guns aren't showing up in probate records, they must not really have been all that prevalent. Just before he claimed the dog ate his homework or whatever...

Nawww--who but a knuckleheaded liar relying on agenda-driven subversives and the media running interference for him would have the gall to try something like that...?

An Obstructed View

OUR VIEW: Mental health awareness, not guns, can prevent shootings [More]
So you're supposed to yell out "We understand that you're crazy!" and that'll stop things?

Or what?

My guess is, the people being shot realized their attacker was a lunatic, and that was the least of their immediate concerns.

And speaking of nutty, this one really strikes me as a reality disconnect:
(Certainly the Kent State incident was also evidence of a national distress, but one we’re not likely to see again soon.)
Having experienced then and now, I wouldn't be so confident at predicting what "we're...likely to see again soon" under the current "national distress" level.

We're the Only Ones In a Hurry to Bug Out Enough

“I’ve gotta run!” [More]
So let's see:

He's all for disarming you and me, and maintaining the "Only Ones" distinction. But he's not about to risk his own precious bee-hind should things go awry...

Forget it Jake, it's Ch-Town.

Still, I wish I could get this song out of my head...

In the Green Zone

U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, one of the state's leading Democrats, said Illinois doesn't have enough pockets of hardline conservatives for the tea party to have widespread success like it might in other states.

"I'm not at the level of any great fear at this moment," he said. [More]

I don't suppose it's occurred to you that if you do reach that level, it may be too late?

What You Mean "We"?

If we can't or won't cure the stupid, at least we can disarm it. [More]
Is that the Royal "We" or do you plan to personally do your part?

Is Your Doctor Qualified to Give Gun Safety Advice?

OK doc—you want to advise me? Sure. Just write down what certifications you've earned establishing your qualifications to do so—or let me know if you've received no such training but are presuming to pass yourself off as competent and authoritative anyway. Then make sure you verify your malpractice insurance covers dispensing unqualified recommendations presented as medical advice—just in case I follow it and something goes horribly wrong. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column notes that just because someone is an expert in one field, it doesn't automatically make him an expert in all.

In this instance West's subject is the collapse of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham, on April 7, 1778, during a fractious debate in the House of Lords about the worsening crisis over the future of the American colonies. [More]

A shameless opportunist who won't hesitate exploiting this to attack the rights of his overwhelmingly peaceable countrymen...

Anyone want to place bets?

When the Silos are Depleted

California's three major public pension funds are underfunded by more than half a trillion dollars...[More]
This has inspired me to come up with a new saying that sounds like it ought to be an old one:
When the trough is empty, the hogs go feral.
Be a heck of a thing, wouldn't it? In so many ways...

GRE Round Up for Apr. 6

Liston Matthews/Knoxville:
Inner City Gang-Rape

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:

Foolproof Control

"It does stop people from coming out and acting the fool"...[More]
Perhaps.

But it hardly seems effective at stopping much else.

So much for a disarmed surveillance state being the answer. Not that those who rule have sufficient incentive to get the question right--yet.

Forget it Jake, it's Chi-Town.

Freedom from Fear

“People should be free from the fear and the potential for violence firearms represent,” said Democratic Assembly Member Lori SaldaƱa of San Diego, in a statement. [More]
So Lori's plan is to ensure if they do encounter the potential for violence firearms represent, they'll be absolutely paralyzed in helpless terror! Right before they're killed.

That's because like a good California Marxist, she knows the function of government is to rule and tell people what they can and cannot do.

See, when you can command a massive police presence to protect you from the repercussions of your actions, you don't need to worry about whether the peasantry can protect itself. I'd say something about the potential for violence their firearms represent, but we all know California "Only Ones" would never abuse the privileges of authority.

Boy, that ABC 10 I-Team: top drawer propagandists, no? They have me so convinced Lori's a champion of human liberty, I'm ready to start waving the red, white and green...

Hey, any bets some on "our side" will blame the open carriers for making this happen?

AZ FFA

I've been occupied with other matters, so I'll rely on Dustin's Gun Blog to give us a summary of the Arizona Firearms Freedom Act and the Arizona State Firearms Preemption Act, signed into law by Gov. Brewer. [Read]

We're the Only Ones Blacked Out Enough

There exists dash-cam video of Masters' shooting. There are also police interviews of other witnesses, and the police report itself. But the public and the press are as unlikely to see any of those as they are to learn the officer’s name. That's because the Fairfax County Police Department—along with the neighboring municipal police departments of Arlington and Alexandria—are among the most secretive, least transparent law enforcement agencies in the country. And local political leaders don't seem particularly concerned about it. [More]
So what will it take to make them "particularly concerned"? And why should we be "particularly concerned" about them?

We're the Only Ones Seasoned Enough

During the arrest, the officer placed a pepperball launcher on top of the cruiser.

The officers drove off with the launcher still on the car and it fell off somewhere in route to jail. [More]

Cool. I'm sure they've made some kids very happy. Let's just hope the recovery effort doesn't end up "following department protocol," where only one side goes home at the end of their shift...
