Prosecutorial Discretion

"All of these statutes constitute unjustifiable infringements on the fundamental right of every law-abiding American to arm themselves for self-defense," Fox wrote in a release posted on the county's website. "Does preventing the barkeep from protecting herself when she carries the bank bag home from the tavern make sense? Not here, not anymore." [More]
Good for him!

Here's the website statement. Read the whole thing. What a great grassroots rebellion this could start!

"Let freedom ring!" indeed.

That doesn't mean the town party-pooper isn't getting ready to drop trou:
Black River Falls police Chief Don Gilberg said he disagrees with Fox's assessment and that his officers will continue to enforce state and local gun laws.

"We don't think it's a good public policy," Gilberg said. "It'll make our community less safe. We don't want people walking into the courthouse or city hall or god knows where (carrying firearms)."
YOU carry guns God-knows-where, Gilberg, you elitist. What makes you better than anyone else? That they're not Wisconsin "Only Ones"?

What Would YOU Do?

I got the following email:
Don't take this the wrong way. I am an open carry supporter however I feel that I if can't open carry than this guy should either conceal it or show his badge (if he was in fact a cop).

I was eating lunch [at a] restaurant...in Houston and a guy strolls by on the way to the restroom. He has his handcuffs tucked over his belt and the butt of his sub compact Glock sticking out of his pants. When he comes out of the bathroom I noticed that he had a badge holder turned backwards and tucked between his belt and pants. He definitely looked the part of a detective. I made a comment to my wife who said what business of it is mine.

My response was that if I can't open carry then he should have to carry where everyone can see his badge. I halfway felt like reporting the suspected only one to the only ones as a man with a gun incident but decided not to as I did not want to give my name and cause issue for my wife and 2 kids who were with me.

Am I wrong in feeling that the only ones should have to show their badge properly if open carrying since open carry is not legal in Texas for anyone but an only one with a badge?
One of the thoughts I had would be to find a payphone so it could not be traced to me, call in an anonymous "man with a gun" report and then sit back and watch the fun--if they want to impose "Only One" rules on the rest of us, let them live with the inevitable consequences..

We're the Only Ones Camera-Shy Enough

A Texas man has sued his local police department, saying he was arrested for taking a picture of a police officer when the officer entered his home without permission. [More]

The Silos of Responsibility

The primary aspects of the plan — identifying impact players and directing social services at them and their families — are similar to antiviolence efforts the city and private organizations, including the Boston Foundation, have launched in the past. [More]
That's just what's lacking in our urban areas: yet more government involvement.

Hey, they say it's "a brilliant idea," so who am I to argue?

But why can't I shake "Gee, Officer Krupke" out of my head?

Anyone who uses terms like "silos of responsibility" has so mastered political weaselspeak, you just have to kind of shake your head in awe. That must be where you store things before the delivery trucks of control arrive. Or something.

Will Delaware anti-carry gun law 'enhance public safety'?

This Day in History: July 1

Washington sent a report to Congress on July 1, 1778 describing the actions taken during the Battle of Monmouth (in part)

After marching about five Miles, to my great surprise and mortification, I met the whole advanced Corps retreating, and, as I was told, by General Lee’s orders, without having made any opposition, except one fire given by a party under the command of Col. Butler on their being charged by the Enemy’s Cavalry, who were repulsed. [More]

No it's not, Courtland Milloy. How could you not already know this stuff?

This information has been argued for many years, from Clayton Cramer's ground-breaking work to attempts by many, myself included, to get some of you ivory tower ignoramuses to take your knee-jerk prejudiced-against-guns blinders off and look at the damn facts--and it's always met with either silence or self-blinded denial.

I don't suppose you've heard of "No Guns for Negroes," either? Or of "Black Man with a Gun"?

Sheesh, Courtland, where ya been?

How you can call yourself a journalist, especially with the resources at your disposal and being paid good money to investigate and know what you write about is beyond me. Such demonstrable ignorance presuming to inform a substantial readership seems like malpractice at best.

Except I've come to expect nothing more from you "Only Ones"-promoting "Authorized Journalists."
