And while I don’t pretend to give a damn one way or another about what happens to this Mirkarimi character, who as far as I’m concerned is hoist on his own petard and not likely to have an epiphany on individual liberty even if he manages to beat the…uh…rap, his predicament points to a disconnect between crime and punishment driven more by the political correctness he and his kind have demanded, enabled and enforced, than by public safety. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes a rat caught in a trap of its own making.

SF Sheriff Mirkarimi caught in gun control net he helped cast
A High Wire Act
Clinton: Done with the ‘high wire’ of politics. Really. [More]Via Scott J, who speculates:
Before any of gunwalker can stick to her.I wouldn't want to test the safety of my net from that height, either. But I also don't think we've "really" seen the last of this circus act, and somehow can't shake the feeling that she still plans to end up featuring her freak show in the center ring.
We're the Only Ones Acting Reasonably Enough
Knox County prosecutors will not file charges against two off-duty Oak Ridge police officers accused of pulling a handgun on a motorist during an alleged road-rage incident last month. [More]Why in the world not?
"We determined they acted reasonably," Gill said.And...wait for it...
The officers' names have not been released. But yours has, "Brock Estep, 31, of Knoxville."
I wonder what would have happened had outnumbered Brock been an HCP holder who thought he was the one being reasonable...? Sounds like he's not the...uh...only one these two are flipping off.
Nothing to see here, move on...

Night of the Teaching Dead
Vanderboegh at his best, performing an autopsy. [Read]
In a rational world, he'd be in an overflowing lecture hall educating rapt students who couldn't wait for the next class.
That and the publishers would be lining up.

This Day in History: January 27
I should be wanting in justice to their zeal and attachment, and to that of the inhabitants of the state in general, were I not to inform Congress, that they gave the earliest and most chearful attention to my requisitions, and exerted themselves for the army s relief in a manner that did them the highest honor. They more than complied with the requisitions in many instances, and owing to their exertions, the army in great measure has been kept together. [More]

Best Bear Gun
Just got this email:
On Bud's Gun Shop Forums the question came up: What is the smallest caliber you trust to protect yourself?[Via Skip]
A 22 short should do it....think not?...read on........
The best answer: My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in 22 short. Over all the years I've been hiking I never leave without it in my pocket. Of course we all know too the first rule when hiking in the wilderness is to use the "Buddy System." For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this it means you NEVER hike alone. You bring a friend or companion, even an in-law, that way if something happens there is someone to go get help. I remember one time hiking with my brother-in-law in northern Alberta. Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and man was she mad. We must have been near one of her cubs. Anyway, if I had not had my little Jetfire I'd sure not be here today. Just one shot to my brother-in-law's knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking at a brisk pace.
Breaking: Issa demands access to second 'Fast and Furious' US Attorney
The refusal by Justice to allow Morrissey to testify also provides all the proof any fair-minded observer should need that the Department is engaged in top-down directed cover-up. [More]Today's Gun Rights Examiner report brings some expected and significant news that most of the "official" media will continue to either ignore or twist.
Ding-Dong Bi...uh...Ditch
Former Bronx prosecutor Bernadette Greenwald, 37, of Rockville Centre, Long Island, told Nassau County police she felt she "had balls" after firing the gun for the first time after the game of "ding-dong ditch" caused her to snap, the New York Post reports. [More]I wonder if she also felt like she had balls when prosecuting New Yorkers on gun possession charges?

This Day in History: January 26
The Captain of one of our state ships sent his barge with twelve men to their assistance, who, after rowing many hours, until the sun was almost down, without getting to them, were obliged to return; and as the boats have not been since heard of, it is feared the poor men perished. [More]

All We Need to Know
Around 27,000 men and women desert the Mexican military every year, and about 50 percent of the military's recruiting class will have left before the end of their first tour. In March 2011, the Mexican army admitted that it had "lost track of" 1,680 special forces personnel over the past decade...[More]Meaning our government is allowing "legal" weapons sales to their government knowing military firearms and ordnance will make their way to the cartels. No other explanation makes sense but that a core of evil, powerful bastards are counting on it for ambitious reasons of their own.
Ignorant or lying? An open letter to Rep. Hank Johnson
Say, here’s an idea: Why don’t you tell the Terry family how this is all just a manufactured political controversy? [More]This afternoon's Gun Rights Examiner column gives a domestic enemy all the respect he deserves.
What have been effects of politics and new media on 'Gunwalker'?
I believe what is ultimately called for is a truly independent counsel--not one reporting to DOJ, as current law provides, because that can create a fox/henhouse situation, and we've already seen many indications of the current OIG investigation being politically limited and compromised--which means Congress needs to re-up the office that expired in 1999. That will be the test of whether or not they have been effective, in my opinion.Today's Gun Rights Examiner commentary answers a couple of questions.
In re new media, I believe Gunwalker is a milestone of sorts, because it truly is a major story that had to be brought to the networks and newspapers, and they still resist reporting on it at all, let alone not embedding their reporting with their own agenda. I believe it shows the monolith press is no longer the sole gatekeeper for information, as the internet has given us a way to bypass them. [More]

We're the Only Ones Lewd Enough
Images posted on the internet show what appears to be the officer in a sexual act with a woman. Another picture shows a woman posing naked next to a police badge and doing an obscene act with a pistol. Even more concerning are pictures of child porn.[More]Right, it's "absolutely not reflective of this agency"--the three only comprise about 6% of your department (I'll bet if that same percentage were applied nationwide, we'd have a small army!)
Thank goodness the "good apples" in Wylie are out there protecting us from citizens with pepper spray!
