The answer is not to train criminal idiots to be more proficient. [More]
The answer is to keep those adjudicated dangerous and requiring a custodian from being able to harm those who need no such restraint and who coexist peaceably with their fellow human beings.
The problem is, we don't have a system even remotely set up to accommodate that. And there are those benefiting from that who would stand to lose if any changes were made.

Two Thumbs Up
![]() |
| James Towle on location |
I'm asking the regular readership to support their entries for several reasons, the most important being to encourage even more programming that presents firearms and associated rights in a positive light--with the preponderance of so much hostile televised media, consider this one more critical front that informed citizens must man. Sure, things like awards could be dismissed easily enough by the cynical, but every bit of positive sentiment we can introduce into the public forum is important, individually and for a cumulative effect.
On top of that, regulars here know I've been working with host James B. Towle and the ATSN crew for several years now, and my personal testimonial is you will not find a more dedicated group of professionals--who continually and creatively provide unique, entertaining and informative "pro-gun" programming--and who do not not forget the responsibility to also champion the liberty principles behind the sports they love. I can think of no current television efforts that merit wider public awareness, and the growing success of this venture can help spawn untold others--and all the while note you're not seeing any popular demand for shows like "Let's All Disarm with the Bradys!" so this is another niche "we" can dominate.
That's why I'm asking you to go to the Telly website and watch the trailer for "Stop the Threat: The Jogger," where an expert panel analyzes an attack reenactment (the full episode is available here) and for the "Houston Liberty Festival," raising money to help build homes for disabled war veterans (with the full program online here), and if you agree with me, give these entries a "thumbs up."
Please take a moment to do this and to spread the word. To that end, feel free to repro and share this blog post in total.
And one final note--I don't know what it is about the Telly website and recording votes, but it is recommended that IE users do it with a different browser like Firefox or Safari.
UPDATE: I'm told the voting will be open until June 8 and that we can vote daily/multiple times/day.
Remember–just go here and here and give each video a “thumbs up.” And tell your friends.
And while you’re at it, bookmark ATSNTV’s website, their Pursuit Channel site, and be sure to watch them if you subscribe to DIRECTV (Channel 608 PRST) or DISH Network(Channel 240 HUNT).
Rectifying Failure
"It underscores China's failure to police the blatant market in counterfeit parts -- a failure China should rectify." [More]Oh, they're rectifying failure, alright. Nothing succeeds like supremacy.
What really gets me is, in a different life I spent over 16 years doing regulatory compliance policies and procedures, proposals, system manuals, etc., for a defense contractor--everything from soup to nuts. Here's the relevant section from my resume:
Manager, Systems and Procedures, Hughes Defense Communications 1981 – 1997 Torrance, CA: Originally Magnavox Advanced Product and Systems, the company developed and manufactured satellite navigation and communication products in defense contracting and commercial business areas. • Promoted from Material/Production Control Procedures Analyst in 1987. • Coordinated command media for administrative, engineering, production and quality departments in defense contracting and commercial business segments in compliance with OSHA, FAR, CAS and other applicable regulatory requirements. • Managed organizational documentation, forms design/control. • Performed key role in audits and corrective action/quality improvement cross-functional activities. • Credited with significant responsibility for attainment of ISO 9001 registration. • Developed online media distribution system , reducing costs by 75%. • Supported numerous successful proposal efforts.I bring this up to establish that while I am offering an opinion based on a media report, it is an opinion formed by no small amount of goal-attaining experience in a heavily regulated and audited supply chain environment. Those aren't mere meaningless words and acronyms in the above list. I just don't see how this could happen on such a scale without a directed blind eye and outright collusion on "our" side.
Should we believe everyone in our leadership has been taken by surprise on this? Or are there more serious failures that we need to rectify?

This Day in History: May 23
To digest a perfect plan of operations, of the magnitude of those propos’d by your Excellency demands a much greater extent of abilities, and military experience, than I can pretend to have – It requires a mind, able to comprehend, and to provide, for every possible exigence, so that in case of success, we might be ready, to urge it to the utmost; or of misfortune, to render it, as little distressing as the event could admit, however, Zeal, and duty, induce me, chearfully to comply with your Excellencys request, in the best manner I can... Gun advocates cite legal dangers in Ohio hidden vehicle compartment bill
This is a documented real world issue with documented real world consequences affecting the liberty of everyday Americans, as opposed to the underworld drug culture the compartment bill is presumed to be addressing. Unless SB305 is sidelined, it will have real world consequences in Ohio. [More]Today's second Gun Rights Examiner report shows how a new War on Drugs bill under consideration promises to dovetail with the War on Guns and make felons of everyone who uses "legal" tender.
Vanderboegh Medical Update
Mike just called me. He's been ordered back to ER because they've found another infection. He's lucid enough and absolutely livid at the new report about the latest (disputed) balking on the part of the Republicans in re Holder contempt charges, and he's looking forward to letting everyone know just how pissed he is as soon as he can get to his computer.

Proposed US law makes domestic propaganda legal [More]So The Washington Post and New York Times, et al, all propagating administration talking points, will become even more overt public/private partnerships than they already are, or what?

UPDATE: Vanderboegh called me from the hospital--his sources are telling him this is disinformation put out by the other side, and with Jordy Yeager involved, that is believable. Still, he needs to see some movement on this quickly from the leadership, including to discredit this new account and to get Boehner off the dime.
A number of Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are wary of moving forward with Issa’s proposed measure...In medical laboratory terms, we call such people "stool samples."

The Garden of Earthly Delights
I recall reading about these last year. Pretty cool and fun, and sure to brighten up any garden.

When Raw Milk is Outlawed

Viva Cuba!
Yeah, well, y'see, Marxist bedwetter, Castro started out loving guns. It wasn't until he put himself on the top of the heap that he suddenly questioned anyone else having them. And as for coming down hard and meanly, don't tell us, tell them.vivacuba | May 22 12:08pm | PermalinkNot very edifying to see the world crowing at an attempt to crackdown on corruption; nor is the point made by other commenters that communism/socialism do incorporate some ideals of social equity, help for the underdog, universal education and health care which Cuba has at least to a great extent achieved in comparison with its richer, possibly meaner and more aggressive neighbour ... nor are guns a necessary part of life there either ... please remenber these things before coming down quite so hard ... and quite so meanly..
F...ing "progressive" idiot.
If Zimmerman Walks
Yet the public mind has been so poisoned that an acquittal of George Zimmerman could ignite a reaction similar to that, 20 years ago, when the Simi Valley jury acquitted the LAPD cops in the Rodney King beating case. [More]With the caveat that I have no crystal ball and I've been astonishingly wrong before, I think it will be worse. I don't think it will be confined to one city. If so, much of it will be waged by the children of the LA rioters' generation, no doubt profoundly influenced by the quality of the parenting and the cultural influences they experienced and are immersed in.
