Connecticut gun group honored as ‘Organization of the Year’
Anyone who has ever been part of an organizational effort knows there's always such a core, who bear most of the burden and who make most of the personal sacrifices, enduring no shortage of slings and arrows, and getting up to do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. And they don't do it for awards. [More]This morning’s Gun Rights Examiner report notes it’s appropriate to say “Thank you” on occasion to those who merit it. It’s even more appropriate to lend a hand and help those bearing heavy burdens on our behalf.
This Day in History October 21
We were supposed to build barracks there. But because we did not want to agree to that right away, but rather made ourselves straw huts, we were treated very severely. A sharp command from the corporal forced us to build the barracks and it was our good fortune because all our straw huts were consumed by fire on October 21, 1781. [More]

Bill Russell arrest shows even doctrinaire Obama supporters value guns
That Russell actively supports an administration hostile to private gun ownership may seem self-defeating, particularly since Illinois Senate candidate Barack Obama answered “Yes” on a questionnaire asking “Do you support state legislation to … ban the manufacture and possession of handguns?” [More]

Can you imagine being Ken Derksen, and knowing your function in life is to be an excuse-making flack? Must be nice to be on that public school gravy train, where they can afford "public information officers."
The moron who planned this, the moron who approved it, the moron who did it and every moron who participated in it deserve to have the same thing happened to them and their families.
I was hoping it would also be a prosecutable crime, but NC statutes would appear to give them a pass on at least one count:

I was hoping it would also be a prosecutable crime, but NC statutes would appear to give them a pass on at least one count:
(g) This section shall not apply to any of the following:
(1) A weapon used solely for educational or school-sanctioned ceremonial purposes, or used in a school-approved program conducted under the supervision of an adult whose supervision has been approved by the school authority.
I suppose it could also be argued a toy gun is not really a "weapon" for the purposes of the statute, but I still question whether or not assault and some sort of terrorism charges could be applied... and then there's that business about adult supervision...
And they wonder why the weakest ones snap.

Not that Wayne and NSSF and all the other proponents of throwing one group down to gain traction for the bus wheels will stop undermining the fact that "gun control" does not work. Not the "enforce existing intolerable acts" kind, nor the "touch a gun get five years in jail" kind, or any of the other nonsense they endorse.
Anyone who can't be trusted with a gun can't be trusted without a custodian. Some may not like that simple truth, but they can't invalidate it.
Until that truth is first acknowledged and then acted upon, any public policy response denying it will be certifiably nuts -- or calculatedly evil.

If We Must Die
Claude McKay's collectivist leanings notwithstanding (which he ended up disappointed with, converting to Catholicism toward the end of his life), there is still truth inspiring to freedom fighters in this work:
If We Must DieOf course, all things considered, it may not be as romantic and poetic, but there is a preferred alternative...
If we must die, let it not be like hogs
Hunted and penned in an inglorious spot,
While round us bark the mad and hungry dogs,
Making their mock at our accursed lot.
If we must die, O let us nobly die,
So that our precious blood may not be shed
In vain; then even the monsters we defy
Shall be constrained to honor us though dead!
O kinsmen! we must meet the common foe!
Though far outnumbered let us show us brave,
And for their thousand blows deal one death-blow!
What though before us lies the open grave?
Like men we'll face the murderous, cowardly pack,
Pressed to the wall, dying, but fighting back!

Divergent views emerging on ATF gun trust rulemaking
In a related development, Gun Rights Examiner has learned that the National Firearms Act Trade and Collectors Association recently posted their petition that started this process. Previously, they had only posted an overview of their request. [More]This evening’s Gun Rights Examiner column notes that collected comments, as opposed to collector comments, can be two very different things.
It's Not the Gun
It's the person. [Watch]
A-yup.
And this is the most right-on bit of common sense I've heard in a long time:
I'd add that I'd encourage people be armed, have an on-premises range, host and subsidize after-hours training sessions and come up with perks for personnel who obtained basic and advanced certifications.
We'd also have one hell of a company picnic.

And this is the most right-on bit of common sense I've heard in a long time:
...If I ran a large corporation, I would make personal protection training a part of coming into work...Compare that to what these gasbags insist on.
