Today on Talking Guns with Kate Krueger

I'll be joining Kate for our monthly chat, when we catch up on much of what has happened since the last time we talked. I always look forward to seeing how much we can cover in an hour that always passes all too quickly.

The program broadcasts from 11 a.m. to Noon on Independent Talk 1100 KFNX, Phoenix. If you're living outside the broadcast area, adjust accordingly for your time zone and listen via live streaming by clicking on the microphone on the Talking Guns website.

Also, see how you can become a patron of the program. And if you're on social media (and, objections not withstanding, you should be for reasons outlined here), follow @talkingguns on Twitter, and "like" the Facebook page.

Moms Demand Action quotes famous gun enthusiast in Dependence Day message

“When asked by a reporter in Chicago while attending a Grand American Handicap what he considered life’s best gifts, he replied with the title of one of his articles that had appeared in the American Shooter: ‘A Horse, A Dog, A Gun, and a Girl— with Music on the Side,’” the overview continues. Today's Gun Rights Examiner report notes if you're going to quote someone to bolster your arguments, it's a pretty good idea to make sure he would share your views.

Gun "Buyback" Endangers Public in Order to Score Political Points

Do the widows turning in a rusty clunker that's been in the closet for decades know Cooper's rules for how you treat a gun, where you point it, what's behind where you're pointing it and where your finger never ought to be until you're ready to fire? Does everyone hoping to get a gift card in exchange for proving themselves kapos of convenience know how to check the types of firearms they're turning in to see if they're unloaded, and to safely do that if they're not? Including checking for a round in the chamber instead of just relying on removing the magazine? [More]
My latest JPFO Alert notes that, as with all things "progressive," the opposite of stated goals is once again the outcome.

Miller campaign should receive boosts from immigration watchdog and NRA

As Miller says, “The truth is, most politicians support ‘gun rights’ because it is politically expedient. Our founders embraced the right to keep and bear arms as fundamental. They knew that for a free people, it was not just a personal right, but a political right, the last line of defense against a tyrannical government.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report presents an opportunity to help a true ally, thwart the establishment and maybe even change the balance of power a bit -- that is, providing YOU want to.

Worth a Thousand Words

GOA appears headed for a repeat of a self-created conflict.

To their credit, and deserving of our gratitude, they have been alone in identifying a gestating threat, and successful to the point of drawing desperate Prozi flak. But for some reason, their political arm refuses to follow through with rating impacts, despite numerous behind-the-scenes pleas from longtime strong supporters.

Time was, I could give their grades a credibility edge over the other guys, especially when the "competition" offers a feeble "single issue" excuse to provide cover for competing interests. It's awful tough calling for organized involvement when the leader refuses to press a unique advantage on THE hot-button issue of our time around which motivated activists can rally.

If anything has the potential to change the political landscape over the next decade and more, to the detriment of RKBA interests at the polls, this is it.

I look forward to being able to resume my unequivocal support for GOA grades.  When that will be, I can't say.

It's Not Enough

Nothing in the Bill of Rights is safe from grasping Prozis.

They mean to control everything.

Every Silver Lining Has a Touch of Grey

Chris Christie is proposing what might be the most draconian mental health measures in the nation.  He wants to codify involuntary commitment of people who, in the estimation of someone approved by the state, deems that your mental health could deteriorate to the point of harm. [More]
You mean the real story here isn't the veto?

Uh-oh, I'm in trouble now.  Last time I posted a Grigg article link, I was accused of having an "anti-police stance."

Horrors. Bad me. Bad.

That said, I probably shouldn't have used the "f" word in my response.

This Day in History: July 3

By which it Appears I think beyond a doubt that a Traiterous Correspondence is carried on between some persons in Vermont, and the Brittish officers in Canada, which may prove very injurious to the united States. The people About Connecticutt River on the Northerly frontier who are well disposed, are thereby in Constant danger of being killd or Captivated and are in great need of present Assistance. The General Assembly of this State, have Ordered One hundred men to be Rais’d as Soon as may be for their defence—But perhaps a much greater force may be necessary to put a Stop to the Designs of the enemy. Mexico arrests armed citizens for defending themselves against murderous cartels

They are instead portrayed as criminals, much like the “vigilantes” with “illegal guns” in Nigeria, who did to Boko Haram terrorists what the government could (would?) not. Much like the way anti-gun “progressives” in this country intentionally conflate the term to disparage those who would defend themselves from criminal attacks... [More]

Harry's Fudd Fake-Out

On Target

While we continue to follow local laws regarding "open carry" policies, we also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target, even in communities where it’s permitted. [More]
That first part is all that should matter to us. For a company that never wanted this distraction in their stores and were forced to walk a tightrope, what more do "we" demand from them?

This is no victory for the antis. If they tell people it is, they're liars, which should not come as a big news flash.

If someone doesn't want to fight and is leaving you alone, don't back him into a corner. If you do, expect him to react in his interests, not yours.

If you still don't like it, you don't have to shop there. Me, in the absence of belligerent aggression that invites further observations, I'm moving on.

UPDATE: Well, I thought I was moving on, but do want to chime in one more time to present Workman/s take. Since posting this, I've seen some gunner indignation from groups and individuals along with pledges to boycott Target -- as I said, if that's your pleasure, do what you think best. As far as organizing action to communicate with management, I don't see the effort it would take to nudge an already forced corporate position being worth it, especially with so many other more dangerous priorities to focus energy on.

You Don't Say

Rather than simply extending its current information collection, ATF’s request would have vastly expanded the scope of the information that it requires. If finalized, all FFLs -- not just the ones in the border states -- would be required to report all sales of multiple rifles within five consecutive business days. Those reports would be required regardless of whether the sales were to one buyer or multiple buyers. Except for a smattering of small FFLs, this new reporting requirement would mean that all FFLs in the nation could be required to report to the ATF virtually all their rifle sales. [More]
No kidding?

Do We Really Need to Ask?

Of course it is. [More]

Putting the blame on guns is a symptom of the epidemic of evil that has infected government to the point or near total saturation, and the epidemic of dependency that allows the contagion to thrive and spread.

Prozis want public health models?  Two can play that game.

Am I the Only One Who Thinks This is Kind of Cool?

I'm envisioning "Harry Potter"-style newspapers with moving images (and no, I'm not interested in hosting that debate here).  And who knows what else?  [More

Yeah, sure, this could be abused (most likely by government to spy on us), but so could anything. If that's a reason to deny the benefits to people who would use and enjoy it responsibly, well, we might as well have "gun control," too.

Hell, if you just rolled Forbes Magazine up or folded up The New York Times, those could be used as potentially lethal weapons.

Mindful of the downside, what stands out most for me here is this:
I just set a small hare of C4 on my Forbes Magazine and destroyed it.
I'm a bit out of my depth here, as I have no experience with explosives and don't even know what a "hare" is, but really? Is he joking?

If not, did that require any authorization and documentation, and does every bit of it in inventory need to be accounted for, or is it available for elites to use on a whim, with no oversight?
