What, the IRA HASN'T Disarmed?

"The more spotlight is put on this, the more we discover there is a cover-up.

"Part of the weapons that should have been decommissioned have disappeared and security forces admit they are probably in the hands of dissidents."

What a surprise.

Who could have imagined this might happen?

  1. I could have imagined it, nay, guaranteed it. It is not necessary to be Islamic to be a cowardly, murdering bastard, though it helps. You can be Irish Catholic and be a cowardly murdering bastard, reference the IRA and Sinn Fein.

As with the terrorists du jour, this isn't about religion, either. It is about power. The cowardly murdering bastards are not about to disarm, terror is their only possible path to power. There is no evidence of a massive improvement of the character of the membership of the IRA, ergo they cannot be trusted to suddenly become peaceable absent their ascendancy to power.

True evil never really rehabilitates. It only become more adept at camouflage.

  2. SA,
I know this comment is a couple of years late. However, perhaps you ought to look into what is driving the modern IRA. While I do not and can not condone some of the actions of the modern IRA nad it's offshoots, I can understand some of the reasons which have nothing to do with gaining power. The Catholics in Northern Ireland live daily with hatred, discrimination and the threat of violence. They are not allowed to be armed, while the Orange orders (protestants) have historically been allowed arms. The "marching season", where the Orange ORders march to commemorate the Battle of the Boyne and the defeat of the Catholic forces, has protestants marching alongside or through Catholic neighborhoods. Quite oftent eh protestants include some judicious rock, or bottle throwing at catholics or catholic property. Sometimes the bottles aren't empty.

Basically, I'm saying that the violence goes both ways and having just one side disarm leads to the types of atrocities that you, and I, are opposed to.

No, I do not have the answer, but I doubt that disarming anyone is ever the answer.
