Directors of the Twin City Rod & Gun Club were shocked in December when notified their nonprofit organization had to pay a state sales tax on memberships and fees. The bureaucrats [Sean--note the spelling :)] just keep sticking us, don't they? That's because they believe they won't have to endure any personal consequences.

I can't see that the type of activity is being singled out for attack. This just looks like the same kind of parasitic activity everyone is subject to.
ReplyDeleteI don't think them being a gun club has a thing to do with this. This is strictly about the money, and it is established law. Ergo, to change it, change the law, but do it for everybody. We don't want to go around hollering "We're special". We'll never get the average citizen on our side if they perceive us to be different from them or if they think that is our perception. And, in fact, we are not all that different from them in most areas and aspirations. The more everybody realizes that, the better our chances of changing the minds of the fearful of RKBA.
We can't reach that understanding if we hold ourselves above our neighbors for "special" treatment. That is how law enforcement lost the respect and admiration of the main body of the public.
