I'm assuming that law enforcement officers currently enjoy an exemption from the existing law. Ergo, if they want to vette the new bill for acceptability from their viewpoint, which they have no right to do, let's just say that in the interest of cooperation, they get to confer with and approve/disapprove the new bill. It should be made clear to them, that if their opposition to the new bill is based on valid concerns and those concerns are instrumental in defeating the new bill, the exemption they enjoy under existing law will be rescinded also. Could we do less if we agree with them,in keeping, of course, with their valid concerns? motorists just like cops want just as much "to go home at the end of the day".
Any law enforecement officer who does not approach every situation, from a traffic stop to a domestic disturbance call, as if it were potentially deadly. Needs retraining or shouldn'y be doing this job.

Take away their exemption and monopoly on force many of them won't be.

ReplyDelete"Officer safety would also be jeopardized by a suspect's ability to just grab a handgun and pull the trigger while stopped by police."
ReplyDeleteok, now this new law will suddenly change a criminals behavior?
