Although Kansas has a new concealed-carry gun law, employers have the right to prohibit employees and customers from bringing guns on their premises, Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline said Wednesday...Without meaning to reopen an old debate, gun owners should react to businesses that do this with their wallets. Profit margins are generally pretty slim, and if you let a business owner know you have chosen his competitor and are going to make a personal commitment to warn other gun owners, you'll probably see some behavior modification.
Businesses open to the public should post signs saying that carrying a concealed weapon on the premises is prohibited.
"If you're a retail place, you need to have a sign in a public place," Kline said.
Ohioans for Concealed Carry have a state-specific business card they use for this purpose. I've taken the liberty of developing a universal card based on this principle and have templated a Word file for Avery 5371 card stock labels. It actually looks a lot crisper than the jpeg here:
Anybody know how to make Word files accessible from Blogspot?
If not, you can do one of two things: Develop your own card, or email me and I'll send you the template.
Right here across the state line http://www.missouricarry.com has a nice "No Guns = No Money" card and flyer. Haven't checked the 'sister' site http://www.kscarry.com but it's probably there as well.
ReplyDeleteBased on the collective experiences here the cards can work. They generally don't work when the sign is controlled 'from above' - either corporate policy or an anti-gun owner. Talking politely to the owner / manager and coming back with your receipts has brought signs down.
We just had a member doing a kitchen remodel whose wife called him from the checkout of the lumberyard because she didn't have the checkbook. He saw the sign on the door and made her come outside. Ended up explaining to the manager why he was making him void a $10,000 sale. Was in trouble with the wife until the store's installer quietly called and said he could do an even better deal for him buying elsewhere.

ReplyDeleteI can't find the "No Gun = No Money" card on the www.missouricarry.com website. Maybe I'm blind. Can you post a direct link? Thanks.
When Texas first got the CHL, lots of businesses did this. One big one was Blockbuster. There was a statewide boycott of Blockbuster by pro-CHLers that actually worked. After a few months, they took down the signs.
ReplyDeleteEasiest way to make the Word document available is to upload it to a free hosting service such as www.rapidshare.de. It will provide you with a link for people to download the file free of charge
ReplyDeleteI can host the file for you if you'd like.
ReplyDeleteDitto on Civis' offer. Just e-mail it to me.
