The answer is that my love of fly-fishing and exploring solo hasn't changed, but the way I protect myself has. I just took shooting lessons and recently purchased a .38 caliber Ruger revolver that I plan to carry with me.Some might quibble over caliber, but the important thing here is she gets it.
The 38 is still a good caliber for defense; those that disagree only need to look at it's record.

ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn't argue with it. Admittedly, it wouldn't be my choice, but the question the smaller-caliber folks ask is valid: "Would you mind getting shot with it?" My answer: Well, uh, yeah, I would mind, it's still a little piece of metal going pretty fast. As long as she's comfortable with it, I say, good for her!
