BREAKING NEWS: REMINGTON TERMINATES RELATIONSHIP WITH ZUMBO

A comment on the Zumbo blog was purported to be by Tommy Millner, CEO of Remington.

I wanted to verify before posting about it, and sent him the following:
Mr. Millner,

I have seen a statement attributed to you on Jim Zumbo’s blog, but unfortunately there is no way to authenticate that it really came from you.

I would like to post your statement unedited, in its entirety on my blog. Care to give one?

Thank you,

David Codrea

I just received the following reply:

  1. I almost feel sorry for him. But not quite. The sad fact is that it didn't seem to occur to him that what he was saying would be the least bit contraversial.

  2. My first impressions of Zumbo back in 1981 have been confirmed. He is a pompous self-righteous elitist.

At a book signing in Vernal, UT, of his first book on mule deer, he made me feel humiliated for trying to start a conversation on Utah's fine hunting areas. He was too much above this peon.

It is very evident that his remarks were what he feels.

  3. Through his 42 years of writing, he has been advising gun owners about guns and hunting, yet still remains ignorant of the words, "shall not infringe". With writers like him employed in the industry, it's no wonder the majority of gun owners aren't screaming for the release of Mr. Fincher and demanding the immediate reversal of all "gun control" laws. Leading far too many astray, his kind truly is our worst enemy.

  8. I have purchased Remington products, but not in any manner due to a real preference, usually as a convenience. However, they have achieved MFC* with me.

I hope the other sponsors do the same.

*MFC= most favored corporation trading status.

  9. I think that you've been spoofed on that email from Millner. Look closely at the sender's @Remington.com email address and it looks like there are 3 L's in his last name.

  10. I don't think so, Mr. W. I sent an email to the correct edress and got this back as a reply-- the header info shows it came from Remington.

Plus, Alfred D. Russo was copied on this, and he's Remington's Marketing Communications Manager.

I believe it's more carelessness on Millner's part in setting up his email account--but we'll see. I'm leaving this post up and will be watching for a promised Remington announcment.

Looking at various gun forums, others have received basically the same message as Mr. Codrea. Also, looking at remington's site, they have this posted

"NOTICE: Remington is in the process of severing our sponsorships with Mr. Zumbo. Remington in no way shares or advocates any of the comments made by Mr. Zumbo on his blog site. A formal announcement will be released by noon today."

Ah, I hadn't thought of that.It was probably a typo when someone in Remington's IT dept set up his acct.

  14. Yeah, Mr. W., plus you'll notice MiLLLner is pretty casual in his typing, what with capitalization and all, and I saw one post on another site attributed to him where he put two "m's" in "Amendment." I suspect he just had his weekend blown by a s***storm and he's doing damage control on the fly and answering hundreds of queries.

Anyway, as Civis Proeliator said, it's on the Remington site, which I have posted on, and I just got another email from Al Russo telling me they are working on the severance announcement and will email me the link when it's up. They can't be too pleased to be giving up a planned holiday weekend to deal with this.

Now we'll see if Outdoor Life keeps weasel-wording, or if they'll see the light as well--I'm doing my best to stay on top of this and bring you guys timely info, so stay tuned.

  15. Yeah, I'll wager Mr. Millner's weekend at the International Defense Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, UAE was interrupted by all this and he was dividing his time between damage control and shaking hands potential customers.
