Comments expressed by outdoor writer Jim Zumbo reflect neither the opinions of the National Rifle Association and America’s gun owners, nor are they an accurate portrayal of facts in regard to semi-automatic firearms lawfully owned by millions of citizens. Therefore, NRA Publications has suspended its professional ties with Mr. Zumbo.[Via 45superman]
Really? Given the NRA's "pro-concession" stance, I'd have thought his comment was right up their alley. This must be a reactive play by the NRA to save face since everybody else is dumping Zumbo like a hot potato.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, maybe this will be a good wake up call to them to get more serious about supporting the 2nd Amendment and they'll actually start acting as tough as they'd like everyone to believe they are.
wcxuplI agree with the outrage over Zumbo's comments and believe the response of his sponsors is appropriate. However, I think we should take Jim at his word, that he spoke out of ignorance and will do his best to make up for it.
ReplyDeleteThe results of this event include some ammunition for the Brady Bunch, but it also includes a gifted writer who has finally seen the light. Jim can be a valid champion for 2nd ammendment moving forward. He understands the blind spot many hunters have and could be very effective in preaching to that particular section of the choir.
We need to congratulate the industries that responded to our outrage, but we then need to move on. Jim Zumbo, if he really understands, could be a tremendous hellp in educating the "sporting purposes" crowd.
Anon, I responded to you in a new post.
ReplyDeleteanonymous, what you said about Zumbo being an ambassador between hunters and gunnies is probably true, but it's far too late for that now. If he had posted on his blog that he used to think that way, but that he's started to see things differently, and then enumerated his reasons, he might have persuaded other anti-"EBR" hunters to see the light AND not raised the ire of pro 2A absolutists. But he did none of this, and now he's paying a dear price.
