You might not like what Sheriff Bill Brown of Santa Barbara County has to say, but he is honest and direct about it. Which makes you wonder why the NRA gave an “A” rating to a man who makes it clear he’s proud that he has given out only three concealed-carry permits in his many years of service.Friend Larry Rankin gets ink from The Santa Barbara Independent.
"Would not California law enforcement almost unanimously support a law protecting sheriffs and police chiefs from liability for issuing concealed-carry permits?"
ReplyDeleteWhy would you want the NRA to lobby for this or any other law? They gave this guy an "A" rating. They won't say why or admit they made a mistake. I think it's time to boot the NRA. They have been instrumental in gun control laws since 1934.
The government does not get sued for issueing a license if a driver is neglegent and someone gets hurt or killed. This is a nonsense answer.
The answer is not asking the government for a different kind of control. The answer is to remove their control.
This is one more example why conceal carry permits should be eliminated.
If your child falls into the river and is drowning, would you ask the government permission to rescue? Would you wait for the government to rescue? Would you apply for a permit to rescue? A permit that you would surely have to have training to even apply? Then, they may not issue the permit, with no hope of recovering your expense and time?
This sherrif has a means to protect his family, just like other politicians. You don't deserve the same?
The government is openly plotting to take away your guns. If you don't give them up, you will be a felon. If you use one, you will be a felon. They will pursue you harder than they do the criminals.
Snoop Dog got probation for being a convicted felon with a gun. Will you get probation?
Excellent observations, anon, I've never seen the argument better stated. I have been gently trying to guide my friend Larry to these conclusions, which I believe he accepts the logic of, but the siren song of incrementalism via CCW "permits" has proven strong with many in the gun rights movement, particularly when that's what they get not only from their "leadership," but also from many RKBA commentators. Perhaps your eloquence will help persuade a few more...
ReplyDeleteIf I were sheriff, I would not issue even a single "carry permit". No, I would put a big article in the newspaper telling the citizens that it is their right and responsibility to protect themselves and that I expect them to do so from this day forward, regardless of what any subsequent sheriff might tell them. If they insisted on wanting a permit "for reciprocity purposes", I would help them get one from a locality that gave them out easily.
ReplyDeleteThe power of arbitrarily deciding whom is worthy and whom is not. Was NEVER supposed to be placed into the hands of the 'sheriff'. Or, ANY other 'legal' or 'political' official. That is PRECISELY how the right was whittled down by the English.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pre-existent right of nature. And our governments were explicitly denied ANY power or control over it.
Look at what has happened since We The People have acquiesced to "reasonable regulations". We are experiencing the same exact conditions that caused the founders to revolt.
Those whom allow themselves to be governed by fear, will soon find themselves under its absolute rule....
