I am a 36-year-old gun owner. I started target shooting at the age of 5 and hunting at the age of 14. At the age of 21 I joined the NRA and became am NRA certified shooting instructor and spent three years teaching shooting skills with the Boy Scouts of America. Not surprisingly, I am a very strong proponent of the right of Americans to own firearms. What some people do find surprising is that I am also a strong proponent of stricter gun laws in this country...Nothing disgusts me more than gun owners for gun control. There's a term for such creatures...
The only realistic solution is to enact strict federal laws that require background checks for the purchase of all firearms, to have mandatory waiting periods for purchasing firearms, to federally regulate ALL gun dealers in the country and to limit the number of guns that can be purchased by an individual during a given time period, such as per month or per year.

"At the age of 21 I joined the NRA and became am NRA certified shooting instructor and spent three years teaching shooting skills with the Boy Scouts of America"
ReplyDeleteNRA...does that stand for "No Rifles Anywhere"?
LaPierre...is that French for, "I surrender a little every day"?
We don't see the NRA in Illinois, maybe because they already have things the way they want it. Of course, it is possible the mayor of Chicago is their rep.
Boot the NRA.
John is a liar. He is not an NRA certified shooting instructor, a hunter or a gun owner. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing trying to peddle his posion to the unsuspecting. I cannot imagine even the NRA certifying someone who has no idea about the most basic firearm laws.
ReplyDeleteBill, you're right on the mark about "liar".
ReplyDelete...The only realistic solution is to enact strict federal laws that require background checks for the purchase of all firearms...
Been in place for 13 years now. And it's not like individual states didn't do background checks in the past, or individual municipalities. Did it make a difference? A little.
to have mandatory waiting periods for purchasing firearms
We already have this. My home state of Connecticut had a waiting period long before the Brady Law came along. Do this make a difference? Yes, it makes those crazy enough to do murder-suicide wait a couple of weeks (or months) to do their crimes.
to federally regulate ALL gun dealers in the country
They already are, as are hobbyists who wish to directly purchase relics.
and to limit the number of guns that can be purchased by an individual during a given time period
How would this make a difference? I can only hold a maximum of two guns at once. If they're looking for black market trafficking, well, provided a crooked dealer is likely not going to log those transfers... Uh, they already have the data that can show how many guns each person purchases.
such as per month or per year.
Again, all this does is delay.
Same old bogus regulations that will do nothing but slow down the legal system over trivial matters. That is, when they're actually enforced, like the "adjudicated mentally defective" box on the ATF transfer form.
Disarming political opponents doesn't seem to be having an effect on crime, but they keep trying it. Like the old joke: I keep sawin' this board, but it ain't gettin' any longer.
I seriously doubt this creep is a gun owner. If he were, he would already know about restrictions he thinks he just invented already being in place. Including Virginia's one gun a month law.
ReplyDeleteIf, however unlikely, he is a gun owner who is as ignorant as he has shown himself to be, I would remind him that Pol Pot was a gun owner and felt much the same.
Then I think it's time to call this guy on the carpet. Someone at the media pick up a loaner spine and ask either of the following:
ReplyDeleteA) Since it's impossible to legally buy a gun from a shop and not be aware of the background check or the waiting periods, or the wording on the forms... How exactly did he purchase his last firearm?
or the much more economical,
B) What was the make, model and caliber of the last firearm you purchased?
If he gets tripped up by either one of those easy questions, then it's time for,
C) Why are you misrepresenting yourself?
Wow.
ReplyDeleteI started shooting while I was still in the womb, shot my first high-power match when I was 4 years old, made a grand slam before I was 8, have been teaching gun safety for the last 87 years, and yet, I'm a total lying maroon, totally motivated by histrionics.
Did I mention that I personally designed and built the Space Shuttle, personally discovered human-caused global warming, and that, despite these fine credentials, I want everyone to be disarmed but me?
Oh - and that everyone but me is a nut, and thus, shouldn't have a gun?
I can assure you all, that if everyone but me disarms, everyone will be much safer.
Except for a few of you out there. And you know who you are...
Not a "Useful Idiot", but a "Quisling", if, in fact, he is an actual gun owner as he claims to be - but that seems seriously doubtful.
ReplyDeleteHowever, we should grant him this. He seems to be attitudinally qualified to be an NRA certified firearms instructor.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how many inbred ignorant morons who don't even know Mr. Videll calling this person a liar. Do you know him personally? If not, then YOU are the liar. You have no proof to refute his claims but you yourselves claim to "know" facts about this person. This is why stupid people should not be allowed on the internet.
ReplyDeleteAs for what he wrote, did you even read it? He was not specifically talking about any existing state or municiple laws anywhere in the country. It sounded to me like he was talking about have some standard federal laws that would affect all citizens in this country because there are too many non-unified laws in various states and municipalities around the country. And, stricter laws will not restrict gun ownership of law abiding citizens. The only people who have anything to fear from such suggestions are criminals and the ignorant.
And, knowledge of gun laws has nothing to do with the ability to teach people to teach. The NRA doesn't care who joins their "exalted" ranks. Many people who vehemetly oppose guns and the NRA are card-carrying memebers of the NRA so that they can better "know the enemy." All the NRA cares about, in regards to their members, is that they pay their dues.
typo: "teach people to teach" should be "teach people to shoot"
