An off-duty police officer shot and killed a driver in the Bronx late Friday night when the man, who had just crashed into another car, began to pull away after the officer confronted him...That's OK--we've heard comments from the "Malevolent Association" before:
Officer Lora is being represented by lawyers from the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, a police union, a spokesman for the group said, adding that it had no comment on the shooting.
"We need to make it clear that if someone lifts even a finger against a police officer, their life could be on the line."
Believe it.

The NYPD's policy as outlined in today's NY Daily News is:
ReplyDelete"Officers are trained not to fire at moving vehicles unless there's an additional threat, such as a weapon.
But police officials noted that some officers have been cleared in similar shootings. The Bronx district attorney's office and the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau were probing yesterday's incident."

Yes, the officer in question but of course said that he thought the man was reaching for a gun.
