The exercise called for police to carry special training shotguns that would only fire blank rounds. But during the training, one of the weapons malfunctioned, and one of the officers went outside to a police car to retrieve a standard-issue shotgun, Ehrbar said.
The officer loaded that shotgun with what he thought were blanks, but were later discovered to be birdshot, which had somehow been placed in the box containing the blank rounds, Ehrbar said.
And naturally, they're "not anticipating any charges" against the knucklehead who negligently wounded not one, not two, but three fellow "Only Ones."
The only thing missing from this farce is the pie fight at the end. That and putting Curly's head in a vise.
What can I say, but "Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk"?
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with "special blank firing" shotguns.I've shot blank rounds in "real guns" already. Is there such a gun? Pardon my lack of knowledge if there is such a thing!!But really..working out the kinks? What the heck? That's like picking up a gun and pointing and pulling the trigger without FIRST checking to see if the gun's loaded!!Rookies or not...Geesh!! I'm glad I don't need to depend on THAT police department, they'll kill themselves first!!
ReplyDeleteone of those I covered in the "anyone else have only one withdraw" while you were away. You found a much better and more detailed version.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen a lot of 12g blanks, but the ones I have seen in my day have all said in large black letters "BLANK" down the side. They have also contained a wad, usually cardboard. I'm not sure what kind of ranges their exercises took place at, but it doesn't sound too safe to me. Is this what they might be confusing with shrapnel?
CH, we all know that gun laws don't apply to only ones, this just shows that also extends to the basics.
Well, just recently, I saw a guy who had a real revolver that could shoot .38 ammo, but he loaded his own blanks for it, and used it as a starter's pistol. The gun, hoever, could shoot live ammo, except he didn't trust it. It was an old gun.
ReplyDelete,That's just plain stupid. Blanks can kill, also.
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago a young woman National Guardsman was killed by a blank wad from an M-16 that was fired at her as a prank. The wad hit her in the kidney and she bled out almost immediately. Happened at Ft. Sill, Ok.
Sounds like nobody in that department has a damn clue what they are doing when it comes to firearms, especially the trainers.
You never point a gun at anything you don't intend to destroy. Period. Blanks or not.
David,
ReplyDeleteWhen I was active duty Air Force there was a certain pecking order to the specialties offered. The top career specialties were the technical jobs working on aircraft, electronic systems, and Intel. On the other hand on the bottom of the pecking order were the cooks. Guess what was just above the cooks? Yep, the Air Force version of the "Only Ones". Even the poor logistics folks had to have more "on the go" than the Security Police.
This has held true even as recent as 4 years ago when a young man I knew washed out of USAF Fire Fighter training and was sent to be - yes, you guessed it: an "Only One". He was actually able to hack that training and complete his tour of duty.
Now you know, the reason they are "Only Ones" is because the only thing left for them is to be a cook - and they probably cannot cook.
"I'm not familiar with "special blank firing" shotguns."
ReplyDeleteIt may be that they were auto-loaders; blanks will not normally cycle an auto-loading firearm without a baffle in the barrel to build enough pressure. The same is true for rifles and pistols.
