We're Number One!

The United States has 90 guns for every 100 citizens, making it the most heavily armed society in the world, a report released on Tuesday said.

And it's your and my job to keep it that way.

  1. "Only about 12 percent of civilian weapons are thought to be registered with authorities."

    Interesting statement.

  2. I'm sure that every gun owner who was polled as to whether or not they owned guns answered in the affirmative.

    Yeah, right.

I think they're being optimistic...I'd say it is significantly higher.

  4. Any of mine on a registry have been placed there illegally. I have never, nor will I ever, voluntarily register to exercise rights that belong to me.

  5. Sounds to me like we're got a significant part of the population - 10% - that isn't carrying their weight around here by exercising their rights.

  6. Germany, France, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil and Russia were next in the ranking of country's overall civilian gun arsenals.

    France?

  7. Matt, I don't know about you, but I've been MORE than pulling my weight. 90 guns for 100 citizens leaves more than 10% without guns, since there's plenty who have more than one.

  8. Keep it there Hell, as I remarked in another venue:

    This is horrible!
At least one in ten Americans is forced to do without. Where is the compassion? Where is the outcry for subsidized weaponry for those below the poverty line?
Where is the freaking ACLU with all these citizens being denied a constitutional right?

And no, I am not kidding!

  9. Relative to the rest of the world, I guess we're doing okay.

I'm a bit worried by the u.S. ownership rates though: there seems to be quite a few of us with upwards of 20 guns. That would imply that quite a few people are being more than a little lax in fulfilling their responsibilities (i.e., they don't have _any_ guns).
