I do not quite understand how they could have done what they did in this instance. When I was in SAC this kind of thing would not have happened as every nitnoi thing concerning the nukes was checked and rechecked. If mistakes were made, a high price was paid by all involved. (Which was why I opted out of dealing with nuclear armed bombers - hard to live with your life being under a microscope constantly.)
There again, I do not understand how the egregious errors that were made at Ruby Ridge and Waco could have been allowed to occur at all.
Something is dreadfully wrong in our nation and government in that we expect mediocrity. This really highlights the fact that individuals entrusted with carrying out some of the most sensitive tasks that exist, do not have to meet the highest standards for attention to detail and quality in work.
It should be no less for those in government who deal with the rights of citizens. The loss or trampling of an individual right is every bit as devastating as the untimely and improper release of a nuclear weapon.
AND people want the Federal Gubbmint to run their Health Care...?
