William Barton, Lieutenant, 1st NJ, "Remained until 4 P. M. in consequence of a detachment being sent down the south of Senakee lake to destroy a town there, and another down the north side Kihuga to destroy a chain of towns,part of which is to proceed to Fort Schuyler, and conduct the baggage of Gen. Clinton's brigade down to headquarters, by way of Albany, when we proceeded and crossed the outlet of the Genesssee [Seneca] lake and encamped at Sunset, having marched 4 miles. At head of the Kihuga is a remarkable salt spring where the Indians all get a supply of salt."
