Students on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard aren't allowed to leave their village without a shotgun and ammunition. That's because hungry polar bears can be behind every swing on the island.
Yep ... sounds like a shotgun (even with 3 inch magnum slugs) is the bear minimum. (pun intended) I found it interesting that the school provides the weapons and ammunition as well as other survival equipment ... the opposite of Virginia Tech.
I love my dad's Marlin .444 lever action. When camping in North Georgia it comes with me if possible. Other wish its the Mossberg 500 with slugs in it.
Man,would a shotgun, even with 3in. mag. slugs be enough? Give me a rifle against one of those badboy bears!!

ReplyDeleteA friend of mine spent a few weeks there camping. He had a Mauser rifle with him for protection.
ReplyDeleteI lent a friend my .458 when he went on a trip up there.
