300

The Saturday event organized by Democratic state Sen. Don Perata had enough funding to take in 300 guns for $250 a piece but ran out of money as people arrived to turn in trunkloads of assault weapons.
This...is...OAKLAND!!!

Earlier in the day, two men were fatally shot outside a house in East Oakland, bringing the city's homicide total this year to 16.
I guess their killer didn't hear about the "buyback"...

Why no pictures of the trunkloads of assault weapons? Why no video?

I'm guessing that the lack of photo evidence is because the "assault weapons" were actually rusty bolt-action rifles, pump shotguns, and rattling, sloppy-loose revolvers.

Not that the average Californican can tell the difference...

And don't jump on me too hard, David... I was born and raised in LA, and stationed all over CA for more than half of my military career, so I know something about the average Californican!

  3. The only Californians I jump on are the ones who deserve it, Gaviota. I lived there from '78 until last summer, and left because of an economic and personal opportunity.

I always bristled at the bloviators on the gun boards who said crap like "Let it fall into the ocean." Idiots didn't realize they were advocating turning their backs on the people on the front lines--better men than them. Many were fighting like hell to turn the tide there, and as you can see, it is all coming soon to a state near you, because people like them were too vastly outnumbered, and more in the fight valued compromise and access above all else.
