Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84.
He didn't have to put it on the line. But he did. I will always respect him for that.
While he may not have been quite as "absolute" as some of us may have liked, he willingly, gallantly, and proudly strode into the arena. It seems there are so few with the courage to do so. And none with as much class.

Today on KCBS radio in the SF BAY area jan wahl alleged TV critic started eulogizing Charlton Heston by saying - "Forgeting that he was such a conservative caricature.....

God Bless Charlton Heston - a real man.
At least now the enemies of liberty are not afraid to approach his cold dead hands. I bet they feel so much better. Now, they can pretend it was compassion for his character and not the contents of his hands that kept them at their distance. I mean them being as pragmatic as some of our lesser brethren.
