Ocala Folla-Up

The Ocala City Council on Tuesday cited protection of the Second Amendment and confidence in the police department when it nixed a citizen-proposed ordinance aimed at outlawing the firing BB and pellet gums [sic] within the city limits.
The story doesn't mention anything about Ocala gun rights activists attending and speaking, so it looks like this was probably a wasted effort.

Did anyone show up?

The good news is, it looks like the council knows what the right thing to do is and then does it.

What remains to be seen is if any of their consitutents will recognize that and thank them for it. Or is it just human nature not to appreciate what you've got until it's gone?

  1. David, if I told you that no one cared, it would be an understatement. I can't even get the NRA... The Freakin NRA, (/sarcasm on) upholders of 2nd amendment rights everywhere (/sarcasm off) to put out an email to Mississippians to support the conceal carry in school bill that we finally got written, or to support the bill that always comes up about a Vermont style carry.

No one cares. I'm saddened and resolved at the same time. If you won't stand up for your rights when the cost is minimal, where are you going to be when the cost is high?

  2. But Stephen, the two examples you gave are subjects where NRA management has a long history of opposing, so naturally they won't help.

LaPierre says the "only ones" who should have guns in schools are LEOs and trainmed security. He even squelched then-president Sandy Froman for suggesting it may be time to look at arming the teachers--all reported on here at WoG.

Heck, just look at my "Arm the Teachers" April Fools Day post.

As for Vermont-style carry, again they have a long and documented history--start here:

    Sad but true.

  3. Yeah... it still makes me sad. I do save $35 bucks a year in a membership to an organization that does not put forth my ideals. I think JPFO and GOA are more my style anyways. They don't send me life insurance quotes or deals on crappy knives. Thankfully.
