There's a reason they call criminals "HOODS." Hooded sweatshirts have never been more popular.
But the technology will come in handy for linking attendees of political meetings of the unpopular kind so they can be dealt with. Unlicensed demonstrators. People who drive in downtown London without paying the fifty-pound-daily congestion tax. People whose telly and cat licenses are past due. People whose incomes could NEVER support their lifestyle and need checking up on.
"Of course it isn't working. We aren't using it enough, yet! Just wait til we have more cameras and more trained enforcers watching those cameras, and... and..."
Nope, apparently it's: 'let's have a database of pictures to go with the cameras.'
"...building a national CCTV database, incorporating pictures of convicted offenders as well as unidentified suspects..."
I deal with this type of thinking at work. Additional transcription of data simply introduces more errors. Plus no one wants to stare at a TV all day unless there are commercials and fart jokes coming out of it.
What a criminal waste of taxes to take trained officers and make them watch pigeons doot on the sidewalks all day -- all while violent crime is on the rise.
