U.S. authorities are investigating whether Chinese officials secretly copied the contents of a government laptop computer during a visit to China by Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez and used the information to try to hack into Commerce computers...See, because government officials are "The Only Ones" who can be trusted with laptop data, to the point of assigning themselves authority to inspect yours...
Gee, I hope nobody would think less of me if I ponder out loud on how badly the story I'm hearing here stinks. Because I have absolutely no evidence to speculate about bribes for setting something down and turning a blind eye--I'd much prefer to believe this is just monumental stupidity bordering on a criminally negligent security breach instead of a deliberate act of treason.

With the prospect of Thulsa Doom or Red Queen Hillary as president, some people are nostalgic for the presidency of Bubba Bill.
ReplyDeleteThis incident should feel very familiar. What would make it perfect is if it had been a DEFENSE DEPARTMENT laptop. But then, the current war IS financial.
What's one more act of treason to the folks who compromise "the security of a free state" everyday in every way?
ReplyDeleteStupidity and incompetence are the likely explanations but it is just barely possible that this is an intentional piece of misinformation. "They" could be playing the Chinese in an effort to make them believe something on the disk is true when in fact it is not and was put there purposely to mislead them.
ReplyDeleteThis type of thing is screwy in that you can never know what is really going on -- no matter what story comes out. They might even tell you the "honest" truth -- no way to know if they did though.
