Looks like a pine, but needles are broad, fleshy cactus-like rather than stringy (Not at all syringe-like, though maybe immature children do prick each other for a prank). Name apparently comes from an observer's comment that it would puzzle a monkey to try to climb one. It is categorized as THREATENED in its South American native habitat. "No pointy leaves!" "Oh, to be in England when the roses are in bloom..." "Stop that! Thorns, you know! Dangerous!"
