We saw with the NC high school Tasering story yesterday that the sadistic Nazis are many. And of course THEY don't think anything's wrong with themselves.
If I were a gun rights fence-sitter, that alone would be enough to make me jump to the Resistance side.
A classic psychology demonstration allows volunteers to APPEAR to administer electric shocks to a "student" to test the effect of painful distractions on learning ability. It was parodied in Peter Venkman's lab in "Ghostbusters." The REAL experiment is to see how far the monitoring volunteer will go with the shocking. Actually the student pretends to be shocked when a buzzer sounds; there's no juice.
Some people shock the student into "unconsciousness" and even then don't stop. When they realize what they've done, every one of them acts surprised.
The urge to dominate is very human, though latent in most people. At least I hope so. Watching people driving hints otherwise.
