We're the Only Ones Who Hate Long Goodbyes Enough

A border policeman committed suicide Tuesday afternoon in the middle of a farewell ceremony in honor of French President Nicolas Sarkozy at Ben Gurion International Airport.
And naturellement:
Initially, the prime minister's security personnel drew their handguns and rushed Olmert and Peres to bullet-proof cars, while Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy were rushed to the French president's plane.
Here's why I say "naturellement":
I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that. If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine. The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home.
Ah, oui. Je comprends. Les Seuls.

  1. LOL! What a crock of BS. Fact of the matter is some criminals may be excellent shots and are fearless about using their guns against a homeowner during a B&E. The only problem for them is many folks know their homes better and anyone that I know that would use a firearm to protect themselves and loved ones. Is an outstanding hunter and shot to say nothing of the training they have had with firearms for such situations as dealing with criminals.

  2. Amazing how easy it is for those who have armed bodyguards 24/7 to advocate the disarmament of mere civilians.

Does he have a suggestion for what the serfs should do if the home invaders aren't there to commit burglary but to rape and kill?

One other thing- it's astonishing how well trained these criminals supposedly are: able to disarm gun owners in the blink of an eye and also to out-manoeuvre determined and armed home owner on his own turf. Do hoplophobes think that they're super-powered or something?

  3. His wife is very pretty. Someday when they're out of earshot of State security, someone might decide to Sar"kozy" up to her against her will. What will Niki Boy do, other than scream like a little girl? And hope and pray he's right about the efficiency of the police?
Of course THEY can have guns if they desire because politicians make enemies. It's not the killer after ME I'm worried about but the one thinking "Occupant" and "Whom it may concern."
Sark(ozy) the Red (Remember Disney's "The Black Hole"?) values ORDER over people's lives.
All those U.S. vets in French cemeteries. For nothing.

  4. Or was that "Tron"? It's been decades...

  5. Tron. And, ironically enough, Sark worked for the "Master Control Program"

  6. Thanks.

In Iraq a city council member opened up on U.S. military with an AK after a meeting at the municipal building, killing two and wounding four others before being killed by return fire. An elite. A Sunni, he lost influence when Shiites took over after violence when a Shiite shrine was bombed in 2006, but was still an active government member. There's no sense in trying to make sense of what people do in some places.

  7. Reading the Sarkozy Manifesto again, I think the same policy that gets innocent people killed gets countries conquered.
Robert Mugabe has declared war against his un- or dis-armed opposition. The chief of the national police says opposition candidate Tsvangirai DOESN'T need to take refuge in a foreign embassy; no one's going to hurt him or arrest him. A FIFTH time...
Yet Mugabe says he took the country using guns and will keep it the same way, regardless of election results.
In a country SATURATED with guns, that can't happen.
    Pauvre France. C'est mort.

  8. A failed sniper attack and coverup? Story is now that the policeman fainted and had an ND.

  9. Don't think for a minute the reports of this are anything near the truth. The skepticism of comments at the Jerusalem Post is marked. Unlike Eden Natan Zada (for which look for Barry Chamish's articles) no one has a much with which to challenge the media fable. I'm not entirely sure this is an "only ones" incident, although there those happen in .il also. cycjec
