Assault is an act, not a weapon. Assault is an act, not a RIFLE. Saving verbiage is all well and good, but every so often the media and everyone else needs to specify that "assault weapon" is short for "semi-automatic magazine-fed rifle of medium caliber, military in appearance though functionally different from the so-called "assault RIFLE." Then define semi-auto, burst and full-auto. Not to do so is to fear-monger. They've even got Uncle Bubba convinced that his box-magazine semi-auto hunting shotgun is somehow VERY different from those scary black AR rifles. That's intentional. Not everyone is on the gun-rights front lines. EVERY gun owner ought to be. They should at least be informed enough to discuss this intelligently and correct misconceptions and outright lies. Residents of Washington DC didn't, and now they can legally own registered REVOLVERS. Semi-auto pistols are "machine guns." And politicians don't come equipped with a Reverse gear.
