Nine Principles

7. Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.

  1. If cops would actually HONOR that "tradition", they would cease to be Liberty Eradication Operatives and they would have my full support. I am not holding my breath.

  2. I kept a framed copy of "Bobby" Peel's nine principles hanging on the wall of my office for the eleven years I was chief of police of the 2-man department in Spur, Texas.

My favorite of the nine principles is number 9: "The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with it."

In west Texas verbiage that would read, "The peace and tranquility of the community is more important than the number of tickets you write and the number of asses you throw into jail."
