Overkill

Tacking on gun charges for those who face murder, robbery and assault charges may strike some as overkill. It's not.

I'd say that depends.

If the gun allows me to victimize more people, punish me for that.

But like "hate crimes," whether I kill you because you're black or white, or with a brick or a gun, you're going to be just as dead.

And what may seem like self defense in your eyes may be portrayed to a jury as an assault or murder.

  1. Speaking of hate crimes, the anniversary of the Matthew Shepherd murder was last week. THEY say he was singled out because he was gay, lured to a vacant field and tortured, left to die hanging on a barbed-wire fence.
What they DON'T say is that the pair responsible ran across some punks slashing tires as they came back to town, and tried to kill THEM too. Anyone would have done. Killers kill, gun or none.

  2. on the other hand, if we make committing a crime with a gun more costly to the criminal we might see some reduction in gun crime. that would make it easier for us law abiding citizens to defend our right to bear arms.
    but...punish criminals? maybe i'm dreaming.
